I have been watching the reports about the decline of these breeds and feel so sad. To me they are one of the enduring symbols of country life.

I do hope you continue to write about them. I have encountered them close up a couple of times and they are awesome.

Hi,
the first 2, The Shire and The Suffolk, are now in PR. I intend doing the other 6 listed, just no time scale as such yet though. smiley - smiley
It'll keep me out of trouble for a while hopefully. smiley - whistle

I am so pleased. I am sure there is no rush, but it will be worth doing, and most interesting. I think they touch me because my Grandad was a blacksmith, of the horse shoeing variety, though he did do fancy stuff as well. Thinking about it, at a time when those horses were in their heyday, before tractors and the like.

It's been a long time since I had any direct involvement, as I explain to Bob here:- http://www.bbc.co.uk/dna/h2g2/brunel/F9634267?thread=5224291 I've seen the Shire's numerous times since, the ones based at a brewery local to me but it looks as though thats all changing now sadly. The brewing museum is closing and they're looking for homes for the Shires.

From what I saw on TV (I think you mentioned it too) one lady is trying to breed, Shires I think. Perhaps all is not lost.

I think you are right to stick to two, for the moment at least. It is a lot of work especially with RL being a bit of a smiley - bleep from time to time. Don't take too much on at once.

RL is a real stinker again just lately so I'm having a break this w/e. I'm off to see god-daughter for first time in 2 years. Change of scenery, back in the hills of Wales, may help calm things for a while if nothing else. smiley - smiley

Take care. I hope the hills and countryside do the trick.

Reading your article with interest.
