A Conversation for New Zealand Slang
Anzac day
Spartus Started conversation Jan 12, 2000
Thank you for the explanation. I was in New Zealand on Anzac day about 5 years ago, and it's trickier to get an explanation of what it's about than it is to figure out what a 'bank holiday' is about in England and Ireland.
Sample conversation:
"Anzac day? What's that?"
"Why, it's Anzac day!"
"Meaning...?"
"It's Anzac day and the banks are closed. Yippee!"
"Clears it up perfectly, thanks."
