If you read The Jellicoe's Landscape of Man (Thames & Hudson, 1975), there is an ariel photo of the remains of the Hanging Gardens which they claim were built between 604–562 BC. 'The terraces were built above two rows of seven vaulted chambers and may have risen to seventy five feet. ... waterproofed with bitumen, baked brick and lead and covered with soil for trees etc.' So perhaps they were real after all.
