An important point about modern car design is that almost invariably the steering wheel is mounted about 3 or 4 inches off-centre of the drivers seat.
In other words (in the UK anyway) you are probably leaning over sideways all the time you are driving.

Apparently it's like that because they make the engine and the body shape of the car first and then just try to squeeze the human form into the result as best they can.
