There are lots of tutorials out there that end in installation. I need a little help defining triggers and events.

Thank you.

I can copy-paste what Zabbix is:

"Zabbix is the ultimate open source availability and performance monitoring solution. Zabbix offers advanced monitoring, alerting, and visualization features today which are missing in other monitoring systems, even some of the best commercial ones."

However, as to *how* Zabbix operates I have no idea. smiley - sadface

I think it is an open source version of "Patrol". You install agents on your servers, then you have a central server with Zabbix installed on it. You can use Zabbix to monitor things like disk space, CPU usage, services stopping unexpectedly and so on, and to have a central console which shows your whole network of servers. Ones with problems will be highlighted in red.

My company uses Patrol to do the same thing. We have about 4,000 servers, so we need some way of monitoring them automatically.

The problem with event management tools like Patrol, BEM, SCSM etc is the sensitivity. It's very difficult getting them to report the events you need to know about without them posting millions of alerts. Consultants with specialised knowledge of those tools command good rates.

In my company, our SOP is to hand it off to the nerdy woman in the back room, and ask her to figure it out. And now she is asking if any of my Internet weirdo friends knows of some resource that fits neatly between 'how to install' and 'Read The Entire smiley - bleeping Manual'. For example, a link to quick start guide.

If you don't know, that's okay too. I'll have it figured out soon enough...
