Nice article. Being a London lad, my musical deviant choices were the Clash, Damned etc but I agree about the Subhumans. Nu-Punk can't hold a candle to them and always thought they have been overlooked in musical history!

Culture Shock were there too (if you believe them to be different). When I have more time I will come and have another chat and remenisce. The one thing I have to say is that I find it outrageous that you wrote the whole article without a single reference to the Kennedys. My biggest regret in life was never seeing them play live.

I saw the Kennedys play just before the 2nd album come out. I would like to spare your feelings and say they were rubbish but I can't !

i was a wiltshire punk in the 80's too, lived in melksham, home addres of Subhumans, Culture Shock and now in their present band Citizen Fish....i was fortunate to be in the same scene as the auther charged. I think as the scene was one of pro-acitve do-it-yourself punk rock that many bands like the Dead Kennedys would be over looked as we had our own bands, most 'chart' bands would be for home listening only, nowadays the local scene has moved towards the rave scene bot still holds true the wessex ideal as
instead of plush nite clubs the local raver favours the free party, all roots back to stonehenge etc.....still see Bill Markley, drummer from C-Shock and occasionally see Dick. The Subhumans have sort of re-formed and are doing
a sort of Rolling Stones re-union gig in various places, Dick can still be reached at the address on the back of C.S and Sub albums....last thing is that warminster, the home of the subs etc is still a punk town with local band Chaos Unleashed playing three chord masterpieces in s-west pubs and clubs...its all fun fun fun fun fun till the pigs come round....@
