Incomplete really, wheres the talk of Yip man's students, such as Grandmaster William Cheung,David Cheung, Bruce Lee, Leung Ting etc etc..... What Modified Wing Chun is to traditional Wing Chun. No mention of some of the basic philosophies and principles of Wing Chun, no mention of the relationship to "death touch" or "Dimac" etc.... WC is not just a composite of Snake and Crane, but of all of the animal styles from Shaolin including snake and crane but also tiger amongst others. The aim was to use all of the most effective in-fighting techniques from all of the animal styles to make another style, enter Wing Chun! I suggest that a little more research is in order, but a promising start!

the article is unfinished, in fact i've been away from h2g2 for about 10 months. i will get round to finishing it, bit by bit.
Bruce Lee has got a mention, and the others you've named have not simply because practically no one outside the wing chun world would have heard of them.
where is Tiger represented in wing chun? there are no techniques that i have been taught that even vaguely resemble the tiger.
but, point conceeded, i should have made all the "...."s more apparent.
Wing Chun TIGER + HISTORY

check out Chi Sim Weng Chun
- especially the logo of the main Chi Sim
association in the USA.
Chi Sim is an ancient form a Wing Chun ... the impression I get is that revolutionary generals met and via their back grounds decided as an army to create a fast to teach and fast to learn kungfu - which adopted forms from various types of kungfu. This was freedom fighters raising an army to fight as Hans against the oppressive ruling manchus ... in china ... what the groups came up with was their first cut -- Chi Sim Wing Chun then members of the group got together again with new ideas and people and created...their second evolution of the system...
Hung Fa Yi Wing Chun (control time space and energy via Zen - Hung Fa Yi - means Revolutionary Red Flower Wing Chun - ... Revolutionary Red Flower Praise Eternal Spring Time) the Wing Chun name was a code name for revolution and a way of saying the the old ways will return - the idea being that springtime means rebirth of the old overthrown dynasty... the story of Ng Moi and Yam Wing Chun may have been invented ro provide a deliberate cover - and not rock the political boat - even down to near modern times - masters agreeing to pass the Yim Wing Chun story down...also it is easier to explain - and also sell the idea on Wing Chun being a invented/used by ladies to overpower men - sounds good.... BTW Yim also is a symbol/character that means "Secret"... and the red junk, and opera was a cover for freedom fighters - who would schedule performances as covers for their freedom fighting activities and opera training for their fight training ... to find out much much more of this "view" of the history of Wing Chun visit the Ving Tsun Museum in Ohio in US or visit the vtmuseum dot org online museum - for the most comprehensively research Wing Chun/Shaolin history... ps my wing chun lineage is Yip Man, Yip Chun, Samuel Kwok->Si Gung(Sifus Sifu)->Sifu->Me - so by rights I should shut up and go on about the venerable 5 and Ng Moi and the young girl Yim Wing Chun... but I like research.. and discovery and alternatives...and choice, and free will ... Yip Man did us all a favor with his fellow contempory masters bringing this amazing art to the west and his amazing sons and other masters continue to do the same - Yip Man Family Style Wing Chun Gung Fu ... or you might know of Lee Shing->Austin Gohs harder more power intiated style or what ever - their/our art can be followed back to the temple and opera warriors - things change with a changing environment - perhap the more mystical Zen Hung
Fa Yi style would have been less pallatable to a christian or even secular west or west influnenced south china - teaching the structure and forms via repetition training such that you can fight on intuition and auto-pilot - was easier than explaining that through zen meditation you will be able to control time, space, and energy - control your opponents space and slow your perception of time down so that responding to your opponent is like responding to somebody stuck in treacle...these days we would talk science - biomechanics, behavioral approach, reticular activation systems, the psychology of subconscious actions, relaxation techniques, our base lizard evolved inner primitive brain, operating in an alpha brain wave state (meditation state or drive home from work and can't remember the journey cause it was all done on your brains autopilot), our almond shaped amygdala a part of our brains limbic system that automatically responds to threats and negative impulses somtimes by slowing down our perception of time (like when you are in a car crash or other fight or flight situation --- ) Maybe now is the time to reunite all the old coaching and teaching methods under modern sports/combat science...the return to science revealed and understood zen buddist style wing chun - but on the other hand I would like to keep Ip Man/I Chun/Ip Ching Wing Chun pure .....
