h2g2 The Hitchhiker's Guide to the Galaxy: Earth Edition

Forbes Magazine and GreatSchools have created a series of top-10 lists of the best school districts in the US. They used median home prices as the dividing lines. Anyway, Webb City has been picked as the third best school district in the nation in cities where median home values are less than $100,000.

Over 17,000 cities were analyzed. We're the only city in Missouri to make any of the lists.

The link to the lists are down a bit and on the right. The library got a brief recognition in the explanation of why we were picked. One thing they forgot to mention is that we are the only city in Missouri to ever send a team to the Little League World Series. (Haven't had a chance to toss baseball into a conversation for a few days.)

Hmmm... 5 schools in the top ten from Texas with three of them within 100 miles of me. My school is nowhere near that list. It does have the distinction of being the Texas school district with the highest school tax rate in the state (owing mostly to a utility suing to have district lines redrawn to take it out of our district into another with a huge industrial tax base shifting the debt to mostly residential property owners).

Five in Texas is pretty darned good. Sometimes I really, REALLY miss Texas. On the other hand, this is home and that has more appeal to me the older I get.
