Daughter number 2 has left home to live with her boyfriend - no arguements or anything - she's just decided its what she wants to do.
I know she's 18, but she's still my baby.
Took her round the university today, she was so happy and bubbly, and from now on it won't be me sharing that excitement with her.

It's awful isn't it?
Mine went to live in southern Spain when she was 18. Could have been worse - she HAD been planning to travel overland to India.
Get ready for the tearful midnight "Can I come home?" calls. It's only a matter of time...

Rang me up tonight to say how happy she was - I was geting all choked up - how can this be ? She's been away on courses and holidays for longer periods without me feeling like this.

Yes, but on those occasions you always knew she would be coming back to you. Not this time, though, eh?
Felt just the same when my eldest daughter left home 6 months before she got married "Just to see if I can fly on my own, Mum, I may never get another chance". Had to let her go I couldn't rob her of that experience, but....
I DO know how you feel, oh disorganised one, and, as my youngest daughter says: "You'll just have to keep on feeling like that, until you don't any more..."
Hard though, isn't it

I feel this way every time mine leaves after a holiday or a few days at home.Hard to control the lower lip tremble.
THEN I get the first phone call for monetary aid and I'm better.
I'm hoping that when she does leave home for good I'll be better able to cope.
The thing about daughters is that they do COME BACK.Boys apparently don't even phone according to my mother-in-lawall my observations seem to indicate that she is right.

you mean I'm not going to get used to this ?
There's an enormous Bambi shaped hole in my life right now, even though I picked her up from work tonight...

Oh, disorganised one!
You'll get used to it, because it has to BE - but you'll never like it
And I seem to think you have several more times to go through this yet, before they all fly the nest

And you have lots of reunions to look forward to. Daughters do tend to keep turning up out of the blue . (Mine seems to keep turning up pregnant though - 4th time today )

Perhaps I should rephrase that.
I'm sure there aren't many women who could manage 4 pregnancies in a year, let alone a day.
