Hi Kristine
Pleasure to have you aboard (to drag the pirate analogy back again). I'm glad we've found some new friends as a result of our daft games!
I'm often about, so feel free to drop in for a chat and a , or maybe something stronger , at any time. Her Scarletness and I have mentioned how much we have enjoyed your input (ooer missus) and I am pleased that you have got in touch.
Live long and prosper!
Peter

thanks for your kindness, i would love to pop by and chat with you and get to know you away from the madness of the messageboards,
somehow, i am not sure why, this is coming under my old alternatives page (i lost my login details). i have a new page (alternatives2) and a new researcher number and my nickname is kris to make it easy. (especially for those who, like me, arrive here with eyeballs revolving and brain spinning from the overdose of humanity in all its forms :D)
so just carry on calling me kris or kristine. nice to be in touch with a gentleman for a change. :O

Good Evening Peter and Kristine,
I've only just registered, so am fumbling about in the dark looking for a black cat, but as I stumbled across you both, I thought I'd just doff my cap and pay my respects: if by walking into your conversation I've committed some terrible faux pas, please either ignore me or let me know in the strongest of terms.
Any help on using this thing would be greatly appreciated: oh, and Peter, you are spot on about Charisma Carpenter.

Hey Pat! Welcome to our little community.
Don't worry about barging in.
I use a pub analogy to describe these boards. The R4 and 5 Live boards are like a busy public bar where everyone is stood around chatting. h2g2 is more like a quieter lounge bar with groups of two or three people at a table and occasionally someone joins them. (Bringing a tray of drinks with them, of course!)
So don't feel you are intruding. Friends are always welcome!
hi peter
Pat Pending Posted Nov 6, 2002
Thanks for the reply Peter, and I very much like your analogy about the pub .
Is everyone from MC-H! registered here somewhere? I only stumbled across you by following Kristine from R5, but I'm glad I did. Your friend Bushwhack'd is around too and has started a conversation on my page.
Thanks for your help.
hi peter
akira100 Posted Nov 6, 2002
Young Bushy as well? A movement like this could take over the world! (Well, Bargain Hunt anyway.....)
All we need now is something to talk about. If you look on my space you'll see a conversation entitled "Cheddar Gorge". It's a game we play that we nicked - er - that's based on an idea on I'm Sorry I Haven't A Clue where each player in turn adds a word (or two or three) to a sentence. The person who completes the sentence loses.
The current game has been going for a couple of weeks and has over two hundred words in the sentence. Pop in if you feel like adding to our lunacy.
Anyone seen Kris lately? Are you there, girl?
Take care y'all

akira100 Posted Nov 6, 2002
How rude of me!
Thanks for the foaming . Lovely pint!
BTW There are quite a few MC-H-ers around. We started a breakaway a while back for some reason I can't remember now. (It's my age) I think it was a bit of a schism, similar to your current 5Live controversy.
I'll have a look around and see who still frequents the place and get back to you on that one.

Ihanks Peter. I haven't worked out the art of smilies yet, so until I do my replies will perforce be in plain text.
Looking forward to Cheddar Gorge (although I might have to leave it for tonight): all that practice listening to MC won't have been wasted then (I'm a huge fan btw).
You mention that some people add 2 or 3 words: is that allowed? I thought the original rules were one word only. Heigh-ho: times change, ideas mutate, and t'would be a dull world were it not so.
PS: As far as I know, Kris hasn't been around since this morning.
hi peter
akira100 Posted Nov 6, 2002
We decided to change the rules to Cheddar Gorge to suit ourselves. If you read back through our game you'll see that, as well as posting the words to the sentence, we are having a conversation at the same time. That's when we worked out how we were going to play it. We (by we I mean the Scarlet Lady aka Chelsea Girl, David aka a Scottish name I can neither spell nor pronounce, and Mycelium, our Welsh connection, who you may have seen around the boards) er - yes - we decided that one word at a time was too tedious and long winded considering the set up, hence the change. .
To play with the smileys just click on any of the ones I have scattered around and it will take you to a page full of them. Play - have fun.

Mycelium Posted Nov 7, 2002
variety is the spice of life, so i let others post however many words, but i prefer to stick to just one. if one really wants to be pedantic, the sentence we've been working on could have been terminated by a full stop about 3 or 4 times already.
maybe once we've recruited a few more players we can get stricter with the rules. see how it goes.

Good afternoon alternatives/kris/kristine/micheline/misha/micky. How are all of you today?
Yes, it was a lunch time of today with a couple of mates and an afternoon watching fillums.
I traced you back to the website with your photo on it. Now I've found out what an attractive young lady I'm talking to, I'll go all shy and self-conscious. I was the same when I first saw The Scarlet Chelsea Lady's pic. It's amazing how many beautiful young ladies I'm associating with nowadays. (Sigh...)
Right time for a cold shower then a lie down!

that is very sweet, thanks peter
i was thinking about this whole game and it is a bit like being blind really. you get to know people a little like a blind person can 'see' a person, their words are a dance that move you, their benedictions create movement in another dimension, their teasing is a way to 'feel' the smiles we might otherwise only see. we dance, we throw metaphysical balls to one another, we join hands and enjoy with our physical eyes closed. it is a very sensitive medium or another way to say it is it allows us to emphasise our other senses.
it is a good way to share with others in one looooooooong conversation. (in fact i sort of think of my friendships like that sometimes, a beautiful long conversation - i tend to be a bit of a simpleton :-S)
'snice innit ?

Evenin everyone. PK here. Mind if I join in ?
Gosh, this place is HUGE
Brought the hounds, if that's okay ?

akira100 Posted Nov 7, 2002
Mmm. I think this h2g2 place is probably the best place to hold a conversation. It's more personal than the messageboards and tends to be faster than emailing. I use ICQ to talk to a couple of friends; one in Leeds and the other near Brisbane, Australia. That's the only real alternative.
Most chatlines are overcrowded and peopled by teenage illiterates and should be avoided like the plaque (little joke).
I was really happy when I discovered the Radio 4 messageboards - initially through the I'm Sorry I Haven't A Clue website (my fave prog). Loads of people my age (mid-forties) but with a mix of twenties, thirties and fifties (and beyond) as well - and all articulate intelligent people! A miracle!
I'm virtually housebound and to have a conversation with like minded folk is just great.
I have no idea what I set out to say here but I hope I have told you something of myself and how I feel about these sites.
Oh yes, conversations on h2g2. Love the idea, Kris. Keep 'em coming!
Peter

Hey, hey, hey Pee-Kay!
I spent so long composing my reply to Kris that you got in the way and made it look like I was talking to you.
Not an admonishment, my friend, just a clarification

Number Six Posted Nov 7, 2002
No probs Peter. Was just thinking what a friendly bloke you were !!
So this is where the Young People are hanging out these days. The messageboards are all getting a bit fractious, aren't they ? Must be the cold weather
Nice and peaceful here
