Once again it's barbeque time here at the littlest ranch at the end of the world.
Fresh ahi tuna (lightly marinated in ale and olive oil)
Asparagus (oil and balsamic vinegar)
Potato in it's jacket (no foil)
Sweet potato (ditto)
Yellow sweet pepper (oil, salt and pepper)
Ice cold apple cider in a pint glass.
Life is good.

Life *is* good. (for a moment I put away my cynical, depressing [realistic] personality.)
Being as I managed to crack a mollar on some Guru (un)Lucky Punjabi Mix at the beginning of this Canadian Holiday weekend, I'll be enjoying some nice softleft-over chickpea curry from nextdoor, some home-made porter and Sixteen boilermaker's apprentices of Tain for second dinner this evening (followed by a good spoonful of Marmite.)
I had hoped for a nice Elk steak but the man at the Market said the head test didn't come back in time. (That's a nice cryptic Alberta statement.)

Hmm, so another Punjabi mix eater! I've been getting the Surati Sweet Mart's extra hot product for years - http://www.suratisweetmart.com. Cracked molar though, Ouch!!
Indeed life *is* good, zoomer...and a meal like that woul make it moreso.

Ooooh! That extra hot looks good (and soft)! Where do you find it?

I've been going to the various Indian groceries on the eastern end of 34th avenue for years. My current favourite is a place called Fruiticana at 9324 - 34th.

Oh & the Haldiram's mixes( http://www.haldirams.com ) are also quite good...actually made in India.

ah, yes, 34th ave.
I've been going to the Spice Bazaar (now named something else) for quite some time, but I've been disappointed with the quality of their pappadum.
The Save-on-Crap on 104th stocks the Guru Lucky stuff and it's within walking distance (as is my dentist)

Anhaga, sorry about your tooth. I suspect by "head test" they mean it is being tested for mad cow (mad elk?) disease. As for the porter, just remember there's a steak in every bottle. If you have the nectar of the 16 men of Tain to assuage your tooth pain, you should make it through the weekend, but there is nothing good about a spoon of Marmite.
Zoomer: That's a nice bbq. What would you say to this one?

Yes, the head test is for prion disease. They call it Chronic Wasting disease in elk and deer.

Not a huge Glenmorangie fan, I'm partial to The Glenlivet and their symphony of blends, Bells.
The tuna had it's own worries, I limit my consumption of mercury to once a month. I did sample a little lamb over the holidays (insert sheep farm joke here) so I am truly not a vegetarian (or even a lacto-ovo-pesco vegetarian) any more.
I yam wot I yam.

Rev, with a barbeque like that I would think you would welcome the thread I started about hangovers.
You must be quite the attraction in Japan where they (I understand) take their drinking seriously. Actually, on a related note I (as I've mentioned elsewhere) worked a great deal with various Japanese media outlets like NHK and I first found out about the lack of an alcohol related enzyme in some of the population of Japan. The big doc I did was a fairly good representation of the population I was told. Out of 23 Japanese nationals we had one fella who couldn't metabolise alcohol at all, it could potentially kill him. Two of them had difficulty metabolising it, causing almost instant intoxication but the rest managed to keep up with myself and the rest of the 18 Caucasions (although I'm sure the two Grips could drink turpentine and not be harmed).

It is true, there are some Japanese that turn bright red at the first sip of sake, but it doesn't necessarily slow down their consumption much. In general, the guys here drink like they are still in their first year of college until well into their 60s.

Oddly, after a little research I found out that the enzyme (aldehyde dehydrogenase) is prevalent in Pacific Rim asiatics. It turns out to be a product of a *mutant* gene that is in around 90% of the Japanese population and it helps prevent *rapid increase in blood flow to the skin of the face, neck, and chest, rapid heartbeat, headache, nausea, and extreme drowsiness* in addition to decreasing a tendency to alcoholism (I guess I wouldn't drink as much if that happened to me!).
So it's not that they have an enzyme missing, they produce one.
On that note,
Cheers!
