Hey Loup, long time no see

I've only just found out about what's happened with the digiboxes and h2g2 access. I don't think I'll add any more fuel to the fire with my opinions, and I doubt that I could say anything that hasn't already been said anyway. From the small amount of the backlog I've read in the various threads, very few people - from either side of the argument - have come out of this affair looking good.

I'm sure that it's given the overworked Italics more headaches than they could deal with or deserve too, and that ain't right , especially since one of them has been away on holiday and the other has had to man the place single-handedly

I imagine that sooner or later, access will somehow be reinstated, but the whole thing has left a very bad taste in the mouth for a lot of people, even those not directly involved. I guess this sort of thing was inevitable once h2g2 grew to the proportions we see now. When you get that many different people together in one community, there are bound to be factions who believe that their way is best. It seems to be human nature

I'm not going to comment too much as i already said how i felt about the whole affair before...

But i do wish people had listened to my advice as i knew from experience [like it happened last year] that any emotive response to some comments would be used as "proof" that some people were right about us...

And of course a certain spammer butting in didn't help either...

That being said, challenging some of the arguments used to try to make certain people's action popular among the non-digibox community was [and is still] needed... If not, the exaggerations [on the borderline of defamation by the way] made about the "vast majority" of the digibox users will be seen as "true" by those who won't make a point of checking some facts first...

But, doing that without being automatically labelled as a flamer has become very difficult these days...
Mind you, _even_ avoiding going into a potential flame war was labelled as flaming in a thread i commented in... So the chances of not being labelled a flamer for anyone challenging some of the defamatory comments made are rather tiny anyway...

I have read many comments in some parallel threads by people agreeing _publicly_ that the site is better off without the digibox users...
It is incredible that repeatidly calling us [digibox users usually means ex-LDers and Yoome2ers as well] "retards" and "illiterate morons" is not seen as trolling/flaming considering the potential risk of someone with less self-control than some of us reading those comments and telling the posters what s/he thinks of their bigoted views...

The digibox access will eventually be officially restored...
And despite some people's assumptions [among many other wrong assumptions] that nothing's being done on the Telewest front, the TW's big wigs are _already_ taking into accounts the financial advantages for the company of having an official link...

But, some digibox users will _never_ come back though, because of the way they've seen how they were portrayed by those who presented the "telling Telewest" as _the_ solution to get rid of the trouble makers on h2g2...

But err as i said before, i won't comment too much...
So i'll stop soon before i fill pages and pages with how i feel about the whole affair..

A few more comments though...

The situation has many similarities with some cases in RL really...
But, at least, in RL people would not get away with making publicly _certain_ comments...
That reminds me of when i was involved in a Federation of Tenants years ago... There were some individuals who had the tendency to forget that the Federation and its Tenants Associations were opened to _everyone_ ... And, interestingly enough, some of their comments were not _that_ different from those which have been aired on here...

Certainly _not_ the best time for the Italics having to deal with it [though one could say that it should never have happened in the first place anyway] that's sure...
Especially just after the Liam/Lee incident and other problems that needed to be dealt with not long before that... I certainly would not like to be in their shoes right now...
