I wonder if there any researchers who like me are only starting to learn then French language at the very basic level.
I would like to practice with another researcher who like me just starting to learn French with as I have no-one at home to practice with.

I've been learning French for a few years now, but thanks to a very bad teacher for the first three years I can barely speak a word of it. That OK?

Salut Kat!
I just noticed some slight errors here...whenever two vowels meet at the end of a word and a beginning of a word like "Je avec", it should be "J'avec"...so there's a conjunction. I think that happens 85% of the time.
But in this instance, the word avec isn't quite used properly. Avec means "with". What you want to use is the equivalent of "have".
I have = J'ai (Je ai)
Since English is the language of synonyms, there is no exact equivalent for the word "relatives" in French. So what I would say would be "some family members" or quelques "quelques membres de famille".
I have some family members who live in Canada
J'ai quelques membres de famille qui habitent au Canada.
Notice that "habitent" has "ent" on the end of it. That's because the verb is conjugated to fit the plural persons refered to.
Kat, Où sont votre membres de famille au Canada?
(I'm a bit rusty, so if any one can correct anything I've done, feel free. This is giving me an opportunity to remember stuff I thought I'd forgotten.)
The following are links that helped me through French homework when I was lazy, so if you're trying to learn French, it may not be a good thing to tell you about these sites...but sometimes they have prove useful.
One translates anything and the other is a French/English Dictionary.
http://babelfish.altavista.com/
http://humanities.uchicago.edu/forms_unrest/FR-ENG.html
But don't rely on them too much...because verbs are tricky and they don't always know which form you wish to translate.
Wow, this is a long post.

Enchante M.c.B.
Thank you for very kind help M.c.B. with my French phrases but those where guesses I have not got that far yet. I have just learnt simple greetings and introductions as well as how to order basic items in a cafe and do some very basic food shopping. Sadly I use this site via a television interactive email link and not a pc so these sites are not accessible to me but thank you the same for the links.

Hello BN I hope you are keeping well.
Here are some words that make me laugh but I do not know if I have got the right spellings.
Singe = monkey
Vert = green
Jardin = garden
Yellow = jaune
Seize = sixteen
The vert singe is in the yellow garden.
The green monkey is in the yellow ga garden.
Seize sounds like Sez as in Sez Lez which was a tv programme that was hosted by Les Dawson.
