Hi! I've seen you around too! I'm already jealous of you... going to the UK and all... what for and where?

Well, I'm going to the UK to visit my boyfriend, who I haven't seen since he visited me last June and July. Ten months and 4000 miles is far too long. More specifically, I'm going to be hanging out at his place a good bit, but we're going down to London for the meetup (I met him on h2g2 - your own Thingite Warlord U113478), and up to Scotland to visit some friends.
It seems to me from your space you're in college in the US - can I ask where and what you're majoring in? (just curiosity). I've just finished my sophomore year at Radford University in Virginia and I'm an English major with a minor in flute performance.

Well, I'm a rebel and am not in college... yet. I am too busy at the moment, and don't really know how I'm going to go about a major. I was thinking something involving writing and literature, but not journalism (I'm not very objective). Maybe a missions major at a bible college... I don't really know yet. How and why did you choose your college/major/career?
Right now I'm finishing a two year stint as the director of a touring drama team for a private Christian boarding school, so anytime "the school" or "SVA" is mentioned in my journals, that's what I'm talking about. In about a week I'm leaving for a two week tour (backlog, here we come!)which will go from Michigan to Florida to Boston and back to Michigan... I don't remember if we have any performances in Virginia. Lemme check, maybe you could see us (free concerts at churches generally).
Ah, yes... Clive. He seems a decent fellow! Hope you have a great time and have fun catching up and bashing about. I really wanted to go to the Chicago meet, but my life has been tragically busy for the last little bit. It seems like Hootoo-ers would know how to have a fun meet.
Tonight I took in the school's year end play. They did "Taming of the Shrew" and did a great job... except for the curtain operator tumbling offstage in his chair and all, completely interrupting the last scene! Talk about upstaging! I was impressed at how the kids had really gotten into the meaning of their lines, and really made it a good romp.

So excited you posted thrice.
(in somewhat backwards order)
Oooh - I understand the school thing now. They way you spoke about your "kids" I assumed you were some sort of RA or something. Never mind me and my assumptions. The boarding school sounds really cool - I wish *any* of the organizations I'd been in in high school (and now in college) had toured. We've often had groups come to our place on tour and it seems like loads of fun. (BTW - Shrew is my favorite Shakespearean comedy! )
And Clive (or Richard as I generally refer to him as) is a wonderful guy. I'm glad to have joined this site so I could meet him and all conditions have been right so we'd be able to be together at least every now and then.
Meets are wonderful, especially if lots of people you've gotten close to online are there. I helped organize the Pennsylvania meet last August, and it was a blast going to Hershey Park and hanging out in a park not far from here the next day. I also got to attend Shea and TJ's wedding last July, which was a riot with Tacsatduck and Aaron O'Keefe (who were both staggering drunk) there along with me and Clive. Luckily I'll be in the UK for the "official" meet this summer and I really can't wait. They're really great fun, and though I know people are always worried about those you meet online being "axe murderers" in real life, I've yet to meet someone who wasn't a truly wonderful person (if a bit ).
As far as college goes - take your time. I'm of the opinion I rushed into higher education and it required me to make some choices I rather regret now (mostly about *where* I went more than anything else). I chose Radford because it gave me an incredibly good impression when I visited on a whim (my mom's an alumni and I figured I'd give it a visit, not actually expecting to *go* there), and because I generally like the south-western part of Virginia both for beauty and the people there. I generally enjoy it, but because I'm so sequestered from both my family (I live in Pennsylvania) and from civilization at large, I get pretty stir crazy rather often. The quality of actual education in certain areas is also somewhat below what I expected, but it's a state school in a state going through severe economic stress, and that happens.

Ack! I accidentially hit post before I was done!
To continue...
I chose my major through a sort of "well, I know what I *don't* want to do" thing. I knew I couldn't deal with any of the sciences for the rest of my life (I have a lot of interest in the sciences, but I wouldn't want to make a career of them), so that left me with the arts. I decided I didn't want to teach, at least not grade school level, so I decided not to do that. I like history, but just as a hobby. I like philosophy, but also as a hobby. I can't dance and can't act, so I had to toss out dance and theatre, though I do have interests in those areas. I can barely draw a recognizable stick figure, so that excluded visual art (outside of an interest in art history). That sort of left me with English and music, which, luckily, I not only have interest but talent in as well. I've been playing flute since fourth grade (o dear - nearly 12 years now!), and I decided to keep up with that through college. I have also been doing creative writing since I can remember, and noticed in high school that I got a perverse joy out of writing academic papers. Since it was much easier to enter as an English major (no audition to speak of), I did that. I ended up adding Music as a major the spring of my freshman year and the fall of my sophomore year, though I dropped it to a minor in the spring of my sophomor year because the requirements were making my head spin.
I'm not entirely sure what I'll do with these degrees... small chance I'll be able to just write for the rest of my life, but that won't buy bread much less pay the bills, at least not off the bat. I have a feeling I'll get my Master's degree (maybe a MFA in creative writing ), and then go on to be a professor somewhere. I have a feeling that would make me extremely happy.
My roommate says I should go even further than that, though. She thinks I should become a president of a university cause I always get up and fight for higher standards in education and against some of the stupid stuff our university does with the money it *does* get. She's weird.
I believe that's all... I think. Will talk later.

Tis fine... the h2g2 servers have been acting up a lot recently anyway. Half the time pages won't load period, much less let me post.
I've added you to my AIM list... I'm normally online because of my family's cable modem, so catching me shouldn't be too hard.
*awaits stories eagerly*
