Can anyone tell me where this can be bought (I'm in the UK). I've tried using evaporated milk for recipes which say condensed milk but it doesn't work! I can't find condensed milk at all!

Most supermarkets will prolly sell their own brand, and it is most commonly known as Nestles Milk. Comes in tins. It shouldn't be too hard to get the stuff. Even if you live way out in the sticks and miles from a supermarket, it's the kind of thing which a little village shop would be almost certain to stock.
Evaporated milk, like Carnation f'rinstance, is a different thing - it's like the difference between full cream milk and skimmed milk. Evaporated has been heated to drive off some of the water content, condensed milk milk even more so, and it has also had sugar added to it.

nae bother tae get condensed mulk-farmfoods or safeway definately sell this food of the gods-
just be careful-if you eat enough of it straight out of the tin-you could rot the teeth out of your 
when you find it-try it spread thinly on brown bread -mmmmm!
Oh-and yes, it's a great article-very good, esp the cleaning tips!
