how to cry?

if crying is good for releasing chemicals which cause discomfort, how does one go about making onesself cry? It is assumed that "a good cry" constitutes more than a few tears; so, does anyone have any suggestions?

Easy - Be me.

Hmm... on second thoughts, maybe that's not so easy...

But seriously... Thinking about a loved one who has died, or even how you'd feel if someone you love now died is probably a good starting point IMO...

I guess people on stage may want the answer to this one, too...

Just don't think it'll work if you chop onions. You don't release the same chemicals.

But, have you noticed that if you get yourself really worked up over an imaginary situation involving a loved one, you end up with a splitting headache? And, don't ever do it at night in bed. Once you get started, it can be hard to let it go and get to sleep. Not to mention, if your spouse catches you, it's hard to explain that you're sobbing over something that probably isn't going to happen.
