A Conversation for Talking Point: What makes you cry?

Lots of things make me cry, particularly music. Un bel di (One fine day) from Madam Butterfly by Puccini is guaranteed to get the tears rolling as is Rachmaninov’s Rhapsody on a theme of Paganini varation No 18.
The only sporting event that has brought tears to my eyes was Red Rum winning the Grand National for the third time. I’m not a particular horse racing fan, motor cars are my thing when it comes to racing but Red Rum was something special.
There are many news reports that could make any normal person cry, but the one that really had me in tears every time it was mentioned was the Dunblane massacre. Mainly because of the children involved. If it had been adults, I don’t think it would have had the same effect.
Of course there is that universal tear jerker. My girlfriend has reduced me to a blubbering wreck twice, both times over the possibility that I might lose her. I think that anyone over the age of 25 who has not cried over a girlfriend/boyfriend is not really trying hard enough.
