Essoign

Hats of the Humphrey Bogart era commonly had an indentation running down the middle. This indentation was (and I am not making this up) called a c**t by hatmakers. Apparently it was a common technical term, freely used in mens millenery establishments. And so we travel in time to Westin's, Hatters to the Gentry of Bond Street, in 1932, as Lord Swanley emerges in his new homburg only to hear,

"Good heavens, look at the c**t in that hat."

Yep! I am subscribed to all the convos, but it has come at a really bad time for me - I am about to go away, and won't be able to join in as much as I would like.

But what good news.

I am waiting for a bit of backlog, and then I will drop in.

It IS a shame, I have a lot going on here at the moment: Belief, Perfect Mistress, and four entries about Sweden, Germany and working in Europe. But I will be taking my PC with me.

Do you like the Perfect Mistress entry? A lot of wine went into that one!

PS - Rainbow and I are planning another one, on having an affair while you are already in a relationship. A slightly different take on the same subject.

I guess it's the same way that 'slit' has become a euphemism for the same thing - so one can slit one's finger, but not finger one's slit...

Since 'Dominator' in robot wars has pioneered the 'bi-wedge' design, I'll expect to here that as another euphemism in a couple years time... or maybe not smiley - winkeye
