To answer;
"Does anyone else find themselves mentally calculating just how long it took you to "earn" something, in order to justify the expense, either beforehand or afterwards?"

Yes.
IMO it is a healthy way to discern what you want from what you need. Especially if you want to save for something special down the road like more education , a home or whatever life changing experiences or security in a big way. Money gives you many choices!

Money is an emotionally loaded topic for most peoplesmiley - okRight up there with love and sex.

Hiya Abbi! Your phrasing sounded perfect to me- you summed up pretty much the way I'm thinking when I calculate and justify purchases.

It can be difficult to ovverride impulses sometimes, instant gratification is pleasant. But it's more fun for me to try to make things "special" when I can. I also like it when I can find little treats- like CDs or DVDs, for example- used or at discounted prices. Then it's easier to have some of the things you'd like without sacrificing what you need.

A long-term goal that seemed do-able, would be a powerful incentive. I know several people who are living on pretty tight budgets now, so they can buy their own home. That takes an enormous amount of willpower and I think it's very admirable. I don't want to own a home right now- too much upkeep that we don't have time for. smiley - winkeye

Oh, prof. You are a wonderful fellow and even if you die from old age as opposed to an overload of money or an overdose of sex, you will always be loved. smiley - hug

Thanks for the email, I need to compose a proper reply and get it back to you, but I've gotten sadly behind on email this last week. smiley - blush
