Well, well, well, if it isn't another PC journal entry.

I'm going to post the bulk of it in a second post, to avoid a really long one on my PS page. I hate scrolling and scrolling and scrolling to get through PSes with a lot of stuff in them, so I hate inflicting said scrolling on others. smiley - winkeye

OK... now for what I've been up to.

I've spread myself a little thinly, actually. As you know, I try to stay offline as much as possible at the new employer. I do check in from time to time on a slow day, but I try not to set a pattern of mucking about on teh interwebs all day, or excessively, or even every day. So my online time is limited to lunch breaks, early evenings, and a bit on weekends.

I've been spending my lunch breaks attending various protests and rallies downtown, usually in support of a progressive tax code (i.e., increased taxes for high earners as opposed to dependence on regressive taxes like sales and sin taxes to pay for most social safety nets), to put a stop to the illegal practice of excluding the unemployed from applying for work, for increased ethical treatment of non-human animals, and for women's right to health care.

Related to the women's health care thing, I've also been spending one out of every few Saturdays volunteering as an escort for Illinois Choice Action Team. Escorts for ICAT are "assigned" a specific women's clinic, and escort patients from the parking lot, past anti-choice protesters, and safely in for their medical appointments. We don flak jackets and brightly colored vests and see to it that the patients aren't intimidated by the protesters.

Besides that, I've been working hard at my new job. As of October 3 I will have a full workload of seven surgical centers as opposed to the five I work with now. One of the two new ones is going to be quite a challenge for reasons I can't publicly disclose. But I am enjoying my work and my new insights into the healthcare and pharmaceutical distribution industries. It's nice working for a company that, as the end result, is helping people out instead of exploiting them, like my prior position at what was basically a sub-prime lender and slumlord management company of trailer parks- the management treated those poor residents like crap, and sales people regularly sold people homes they couldn't afford and which were foreclosed within months. I remember one specific parcel which was foreclosed seven times in two years. smiley - erm

That's about everything for now... I'm keeping busy, but enjoying myself. Now that the weather's cooling off K and I anticipate many more weekend visits at the zoos, too.

Oh, and my dad has been in town for about a week and a half and we've enjoyed spending a couple Sundays with him and his brother (my favorite uncle of whom I speak often). They'll be joining K and me at our place tomorrow evening for dinner before my dad heads home Friday.

Things are slowing down a bit and weekends will be mostly back to normal (errands, etc) soon. I'd like to start taking walks on my lunch breaks now that it's getting nicer out.

But anyway, I have flounced off or anything, I just have been doing a few things and in addition hadn't had much to say. I've been poking around Ask and other places looking for non-debate threads to play in, and I'll get back to the old routine eventually. Just won't be able to muck around on h2g2 for hours every day like I did at my old job. smiley - winkeye
