Last night, K and I went down to the Museum of Contemporary Art to see a performance called "The Astronaut's Birthday".

Here's a link: http://www.mcachicago.org/performances/perf_detail.php?id=611

This performance was basically a huge comic strip, accompanied by narration and sound/theramin effects. The comic was displayed on the museum's facade- over the main entrance there are 18 panels windows, three rows of six. A series of hand-drawn comic panels were displayed from inside the museum through the windows, using old-school overhead projectors. The person working the sound board "conducted" the positioning of the panels from outside. We in the audience sat on the sidewalk in front of the museum to watch.

We'd meant to go Friday night, but around mid-afternoon it became apparent that I was coming down with a cold, so we went last night instead. I'm glad we didn't miss it- last night was the last performance and it really was *very* cool.

Sounds like you had a really good time. smiley - smiley

Lucky you, that it is still warm enough for open air events.

Bel, it has only just cooled down enough for outdoor events during the last week or so. Even as early as last week we had a couple of 30-32C days. smiley - yuk Sunday night was pleasant, around 15C- comfortable with long sleeves but no need for a jacket.

My cold has of course moved to my lungs so I expect to be coughing for at least a few days, but I am feeling quite a bit better today.

The performance was a lot of fun! And other than farmers markets, we hadn't played outside since around March or early April. This past spring and summer were HOT.

The summer extremes were something else, weren't they? We didn't get out to a lot of our common places, if not for cold rains, then it was the stifling heat and humidity. With very little in-between. A production like that though, we might have just pushed ourselves. smiley - smiley

I believe it is best to avoid dairy products if you have phlegm-related problems smiley - winkeye

Checked out the link and it looks like a brilliant performance, PC smiley - smiley Is performance the right word?

It also made me want to ask whether you've ever been to a drive-in movie? It's something I've always wanted to do but, being born in England in the late 70s, I doubt I'll ever get the chance to experience a drive-in. smiley - sadface

Get well soon
Van smiley - cheers

Hi Van!

Avoiding dairy isn't an issue for me- I haven't eaten dairy products for five or six years now. I usually use coconut milk based cream in my coffee but I think I will skip it this morning, because oils seem to aggravate phlegm (for me) too.

Feeling better today- not all better, but improving.

I've been to drive-in movies, but only twice in my whole life! smiley - sadface I went to one as a kid, with a friend from school and her family, and a second time on a date in my early twenties. The guy I was with found it funny that I kept switching the car radio off so I'd be able to hear the movie when it started, not realizing that the soundtrack no longer played through the speakers but over the radio. smiley - silly I hadn't been in so long, I didn't know.

The drive-in was a reward to us kids when I was growing up. The family was large and not a lot of $$$, and so the agreement was that anyone who passed their grade in school would go to the movies. Only once ever did one kid miss such a family night. I remember a few of the good ones we saw, The Dirty Dozen, Hell Fighters, Airport, Life and Times of Grizzly Adams. (Remember, for me this was through the last half of the 60s and the early 70s smiley - senior)
