... to be annoyed that it's just a week till Christmas, and it's not even cold enough outside for a coat?
Current temperature in Chicago: 3°C.
Fortunately, it's supposed to cool down a bit (but only to around -3°C, if it drops *that* much) over the weekend, and they're forecasting 1-3 inches of snow, so it might actually seem like winter in time for the holiday.

Ah, is that how you broke your wrist? Ouch!!

HonestIago Posted Dec 18, 2009
Yeah, silly prat-fall in the snow. It's not too bad, painkillers are working a treat.
Biggest problem is only having one hand to do stuff with.

Definitely need a coat here, nice bit of snow and everything looks wonderfully Christmassy! It is years since it has snowed around Christmas time in the UK. We usually have to wait until March!

I've broken both wrists. I broke the right one in fifth grade (age 10-11), hanging from parallel bars and fell off, and instinctively put my hands out to brace myself. Broke the left just a little over eight years ago. I was heading off to work really in the morning, when it was still dark. Slipped and fell on
wait for it
a banana peel.
Anyway, I hope yours heals quickly and completely, Iago.
Sho, not only did I not wear a coat, I didn't even wear a jacket. I wore my fleece pullover with a cotton hoodie. I'm like a kid sometimes in that respect, always going out without boots, hat, scarf, etc...

I don't have a proper coat at the moment
But I wore a turtleneck, a fleece sweater, and a quilted bodywarmer earlier to walk the dog. That was fine. But I didn't have my boots (couldn't wear them due to a cat ) and got very cold feet indeed!

Goodness, how out-of-place I feel in a discussion about cold weather just at the moment.
Anyway. All sympathy to those who have, or have had, broken wrists. I broke a very small bone in my foot once in a situation I won't attempt to explain as it ended up with me hanging upside-down from a rosebush, and I dislocated a toe in a terrible telephone-answering accident, but I've never done a wrist. I suspect it would be a whole lot worse, in terms of the impact on daily life.

I more or less had to repeat a semester of Uni just because I broke a joint capsule in my right index finger - I couldn't draw properly, not to mention the trouble cutting cardboard with a scalpel So I imagine that a wrist would be even more annoying! Hope it heals fast.

I went for the biggie - broke them both at the same time. That makes lots of aspects of daily life *very* inconvenient!

Oh good lord, wouldn't that ever. I can think of a few (of course).
It's snowing out now. It's 0°C, so it's probably wet, sloppy snow, of the sort one is likely to slip and fall down in. If I venture out for anything today, I'll wear my rubber boots.

I've been using my fur coat for several days now . It's been around -18C for a couple of days. Today it's merely -6C and snowing.
DJ (son #2) says I look quite scary with a huge pimp furcoat, tattoos and short crew cut . But most of it he waits for me to discard this quite worn out fur coat so the can inherit it.
It's cold when it's -18C I accidentally left my hat and scarf in the foyer when we were at the cinema yesterday watching "Avatar". The exit is at the opposite side of the building, so I had a five minute walk outdoors without hat before I was back in the foyer and could get hold of my things. I missed my hair...

I've just come in from walking the dog. My chin is numb like I've just been to the dentist. I hope the coat I ordered arrives soon!
Though it probably feels toasty warm to you here, DQ

I haven't ventured out yet today- it's just 9:30am. I've got a chocolate cake in the oven, for black forest cake (the fillings are cooling on the stove), and a loaf of limpa rye rising. I'll need to make a second loaf when this one is done, to bring K's mom for Christmas. I wanted to start the bread early, since it takes so long, and once I got going with that, I decided I'd do the cake, too. I've never had black forest cake before. I needed an excuse to use up some vanilla flavored soy creamer (I don't like flavors in my coffee) and a jar of cherries. Never mind that it necessitated a special trip to a larger liquor store for a bottle of kirsch.
While the cake is cooling, I think I'll watch a DVD. K needs to run out and pick up a few more gifts, but I think I'll hibernate. That sinus infection I've had on and off since September is back in action.

me too.
Well it was around -12°C here today - really biting cold. Brrrr
A friend of mine was living with a guy who was a bike racer (of the motorised variety) he broke both his arms once and she learned more than a girl ever needs to know about male hygene procedures!

My casts stopped before the elbow - most things are still possible that way (with unorthodox body dynamics). Full arms would be terrible, though.
