Diligence & Patience Have Paid Off At Last

I told the lady at FTF I neeed at least "X" amount of dollars per year just to pay our bills each month (well, and a little extra for fun and CDs and stuff, you know...), and she replied that she'd run some numbers at her end and try to get bac to me by the end of the week, hopefully to work things out.
So now I need to detramine EXACTLY how much I can afford to negotiate.
Bearing in mind that she and I both anticipate my rising into the department head position within a reasonable time (the one they hired a couple months back is apparently really struggling) and with that would most likely come a decent salary increase.
PLEASE keep fingers crossed!!!

to them, tell them you are worth 50% more than they're paying you, but you'll accept 25% more, I know your worth 100%

Well, the lady from FTF agreed to "negotiate" the higher salary. It was still $3K less than my *minimum* salary requirement, $10K less than what I would like to, and should, be paid at this point in my "career". She then got all funny with me when I asked her how much "overtime" was included. I asked, because if they're going to pay me a great deal less than what I'm looking for, then I certainly don't expect to be working a lot more than 40-50 hours.
She then went on the explain that she wanted me to stop by this morning on my way to work, around 7:00 AM, and take a "test" of sorts, to see if I could handle scheduling a field trip over the phone while speaking to a teacher. As if over 10 years of experience handling phone calls, customers, and computers wouldn't give me the background needed? I've never *used* Access, their primary program, but I understand it's similar to another program I've used, only easier.
And finally, she then has the nerve to tell me that their busy season starts the 15th of August, and they can't wait for me to give my staffing agent and the client two weeks' notice. They want me to start week after next at the latest. After stringing me along, making me wait, for MONTHS!
So I wrote her back last night, thanking her for the opportunity but declining her offer. I'll stick it out with the temp position for the next few months (it's busy enough- while my title is "Office Services", I am a combination mail room coordinator, shipping and receiving coordinator, and receptionist. And I also purchase all of the office and "kitchen" supplies. Phew!), search the classifieds on a weekly basis, and hold out for something that will hopefully pay closer to what I need to be getting. Or, I'll just keep on with the temp positions till one goes permanent again!
So, there you have it.

And I'd also like to add, where you lot might actually *see* it, that I've just finished a really awesome book, by A.M. Homes, called "The End Of Alice".
I HIGHLY recommend it, it is really, really good!

Sounds like an absolute pain in the donkey.
At least they didn't try & psychoanalyse you though (see my Eye thread)
Ah well, if the interview was that stupid, the job itself would have been awful. Keep on ticking along "better mus' come"

That test sounded like a wate of time and to demand you start so soon after stringing you along for so long. If they are this annoying now, think how annoying they could have become once you started working for them?!

Thanks, Kaz and Vix! I will keep looking out for other opportunities. Meanwhile, it does take a load off having gotten out of the old place and not having to deal with bouncing paychecks, screaming customers, and an idiotic co-worker who screws off all day and makes *more* work then he actually *does*.
