Since I haven't had many journal-worthy adventures lately (and this is, IMO, a good thing), I thought I'd just mention a little something kind of fun.
A couple of weeks ago, I stumbled across a 1965 first printing edition of a lovely, leatherbound cookbook written by Vincent Price and his wife Mary. Apparently, they liked to travel a bit, and were quite the epicures. The cookbook is comprised of recipes from various venues they visited around the world (presumably all five-star joints , as well as some reproductions of actual menus and lots of rich color photos. Hell, I wasn't even put off by the photos of dishes with meat in them.
It's in really nice condition; it's got a clear plastic dust jacket that has a couple small tears on the back, but the binding is tight and the pages, while tanned with age, aren't dirty or bent at all. It even has a paper bookmark that was originally included in addition to the nice ribbon ones built into the binding.
But not only is it a gorgeous and way cool collector's item, it's chock full of recipes most of which (excepting some that call for exotic game flesh or weird cured meats) can easily be adapted for K's and my consumption. So it's practical, too.
Should I upload a photo or two to a web album and post a link?

Yeah, let's see it!
My aunt has a tattered copy of this huge antique illustrated book of The Raven by Edgar Allen Poe. I'm really hoping I'll inherit it.

How cool!
Uploaded a few photos- hopefully this link works, I keep my albums unlisted because I've had people stalking my photo albums before and I'm not keen on that.

Blimey, it is gorgeous! I'll be in England soon and I'll definitely be looking for cookery books. I hope I find something as good as that.

I don't always get this lucky. Though I did find a used copy of a specific title cookbook I was looking for (things that can be made in the rice cooker besides rice and cereal) at a used bookshop we'd never even been to before- we only went in because we parked right in front and the music and incese wafting out the open door lured us in. I want to go back, when we have a whole day to kill.

Thought I'd pick up this food-related thread to pass along a tofu recipe(or at least 'recipe idea')-

...kind of aroused my curiosity, tofu & mushrooms, could be very good!

Sounds OK to me. I'd have to figure out what Bordelaise sauce is so I know what to substitute for it. And would have to buy some truffle oil. I almost bought some once but it was $23 for just a few ounces and I didn't know what I'd use it for. Now maybe a recipe idea is worth picking some up.
Key: Complain about this post
