We skipped our trip to Chinatown yesterday on account of not wanting to wade through the snow, and poor K is in the process of passing another kidney stone (and barfing his brains out) this morning. This weekend had kind of annoyed me.

And the kitchen faucet's just broke- so we can run the dishwasher but not the tap, and won't be able to do laundry unless we haul it downstairs and use the machine... and the landlord's on vacation for a week so we'll need to get a plumber in (possibly a wiser idea than having the landlord repair/ replace the faucet). So I'll probably be taking a day off work next week to hang out with a plumber, and then crossing fingers that the landlord reimburses us the expense without any problem. He's not required to pay us back if we call our own person, but maybe because it coincides with their being out of town...
When it rains, it pours. And I thought all the shit was out of the way for this year.

It'll get better, once we have water restored in the kitchen. K's taking a scalding hot shower (apparently possible now that the hot water valve in the kitchen is shut off?) and says it feels nice. My uncle's picking me up for dinner tonight, and we'll see if K feels like coming with. Uncle will be here in about an hour...

Yeah. I hate to leave the poor guy all by himself, and he was so looking forward to seeing my grandma and uncle.
I guess Herman will keep an eye on him...

I just hope Herman doesn't try to sit on him. That wouldn't help matters at all.

Herman did in fact sit on him- the sitting part wasn't comfortable, apparently, but the purring felt nice.
My uncle picked me up and I had dinner with them; K called as I was walking out at 7:30 PM and let me know the stone had come out. I guess he'd managed to sleep a bit, and managing to keep all that water down long enough for a nap helped push it out.
There are supposedly a few more in there still, so I'm hoping he'll go to a doctor soon and have them zapped into bits so he doesn't have to keep going through this.
Today, we try to locate plumbers. Supposedly, there's a little plastic bit under the faucet handle where it swivels, and it's supposed to be easy to replace, so maybe this won't cost much. We neither of us trust our "skills" to repair it ourselves.

Argh. At 8:30 AM today K emailed me at work that they'd called him an ambulance and were taking him over to Mt Sinai hospital down near his work. I left work and took a train down there... they released him after 8 hours, thought he had an abcess but it's just a cyst, plus there are more stones so they prescribed some drugs. I'm exhausted. Plumber (friend of K's actually) is coming tomorrow AM so K is taking tomorrow off, probably a good idea anyway.

Some week you're having!
Hope he's feeling better soon. Wish him all the best from me. And don't worry about the plumber, I'm sure it's something minor.
*sends lots of good wishes and things*

Thanks! K took his antibiotic, and a pill called Flomax that helps you pee more. He's also got hydrocodone, so he feels better. And since he's staying home so his friend can come work on the faucet, I know he'll get plenty of rest and won't be back in the hospital. This is turning out to be a very costly year.
I'm heading to bed within the hour, that's for sure!
Thank you all for the well wishes- K appreciates them as much as I do. Everything is OK for the moment.

You tell him not to worry if he gets them zapped - it doesn't hurt a bit and is only a day surgery.
Following the zapping he may have some pain and bleeding that evening just while some bits are passed - but it's nothing in comparison to what he's feeling at the moment.
Good luck with it and with the other waterworks too.

Arrgh! Poor K! Apparently a kidney stone in a guy is the Most Worst pain possible; an ex had one in the middle of African nowhere & it was evil to watch a loved one suffer like that, but oh so much more evil for him.
They didn't have the "zap" thing then; so thank "whoever" they do now; with luck, he will pass the bits & be sorted soon. Try & nag him into drinking loads of fluid, apparently is actually quite good, it's a diuretic; plus of course a mild painkiller & will help him sleep. Forget your usual housekepping stuff & place a bucket or whatever under the bed, so he can pee as & when, without going to the loo. (Orange monkeys are maybe not what he needs right then!)
"All things must pass"....including kidney stones & down times with family & fiends. And email probs.
Wooh.
