One of K's bands (the most active one) will be performing as part of the Chicago leg of this year's International Pop Overthrow!

How exciting is that?!
(It cracked me up to discover that hair-metal band Enuff Z'nuff will be playing there as well. Ack!)

when you say 'one of K's bands' - what does that mean?
Reason I'm snooping is cause hubby's into music and is close personal friends with an indie record label...
note, no name droppage here. I'm sad, but not pathetic. Well, curious mostly.
Oh, while i"m posting - are there any nut-burgers (ready-made) that you would recommend State-side?
cheers (champion lurker / aka stupid job)

Hiya ismarah!
When I refer to "K", I am speaking of my better half. He didn't have an internet handle to speak of when we got together, and I've been referring to him by his first initial. I'm afraid if I start using one of his nicknames now, no one will know who I'm speaking about.
My beloved plays drums in three bands, and one of them is playing at IPO. If you'd like to check Tuffy UK out, here are two links:

Re: nut-burgers, I don't know of any offhand because I can't eat nuts (I'm allergic). I'll ask around for recommendations, though!

Isn't that hilarious? Fortunately, they're playing another venue on a different day. Phew!

I'm sure they'll be playing a selection of their classic hits, like... erm...

I can't recall any of their stuff, either, thankfully. Hair metal ranks quite highly on the list of things I very much dislike.
What I'm quite sure of is that there will be at least a hundred people show up at that show just to see Enuff Z Nuff. One big seething mass of ratted hair and Spandex leggings.

Hideous as it may be, it would be very funny to go and see!
I'll get round to visiting the myspace and the band webpage at some point, instead of prattling on about Enuff Z Nuff

No, ratted hair is that big, mid-80s look which was accomplished by spraying the hair, combing the hair towards the scalp in small sections, then spraying to a finely lacquered finish. We're not talking mohawk or other punk-y looks here, we're talking long hair poofed out like wings, with the bangs pointing toward the ceiling.
Why can I not find a good photo to demonstrate this phenomenon?

Ah! 'Back-combed', we called it. Like Robert Smith, from the Cure, right?

Yes, but not in the nice, Robert Smith-like way. Think along the lines of Motley Crue or Hanoi Rocks... but in flannel shirts.

The first photo was pretty cute! The second one more closely resembles the hairstyle I mean. Gawd, those were good times.

A think the Yukanian term for ratted hair is "A Russell Brand"

I should follow up now- the Tuffy UK bit of the IPO show was good stuff. Given the time of day (1:45 PM on a Sunday), there wasn't a huge crowd, but the performance was tight. The Elbo Room doesn't have very good acoustics, though- the overall impression (including the bands preceding and following) was that the sound was a bit muffled.
Anyway, it'll broaden their exposure.
Key: Complain about this post
