h2g2 The Hitchhiker's Guide to the Galaxy: Earth Edition

Hi all

I've finally made it back on! Between problems logging in since the "upgrade", and the fact that I've already put in 8 hours overtime so far this week and it's only Wednesday, I've not been much of a presence lately. Not that I flatter myself so much as to think I'm sorely missed, or anything.

Anyway, I just wanted to pop in and let you all know I'm okay, and I will try to catch up with each of you as much as I can. I've had the great pleasure of talking with some of you already this week! Some nights I get home and I'm so exhausted all I can do is cry myself to sleep. But I'm okay, I promise, and hope you are all okay as well. And if you're not, please tell me, 'cause I'm here for you no matter what.

Well, I may be overworked, overwhelmed, and worn out, but I still need to have some fun and to stimulate my little grey cells. I'm grateful for h2 and for all of my friends here (many of whom have thankfully spilled over into Real Life and made it that much more enjoyable), I'd be lonely and more than a bit loopy without you lot!

I hate to rag about work here, but it takes up most of my time, so I feel a need to share and vent and all that. I've recently acquired a LOT more responsibility- 24 reps which are all "special" accounts dealing in private label products with their own pricing structure and a need for extra attention, as well as one university and two major medical societies. Not to mention those people who like to deal with me because they enjoy talking with me and know I'll go out of my way to give them my all regardless of how busy or stressed I get. I'm putting in 10-12 hours a day, training new people, and coming in weekends to catch up or help out when needed. I don't mind it much, except for being tired and not having much of a social life... but it gets a bit frustrating having to put in a 50 hour week in order to pull in a salary on which I can "get by". It'd be nice to get ahead just once. Mostly I feel I'm running to stand still.

The good news is, our IS and merchandising departments have finally completed a new spreadsheet which is totally awesome, and will make order processing much, much quicker, easier, and more efficient. I've been lucky enough to be in on the testing phase, and am anxiously awaiting the day it finally goes live. I know it sounds trivial, and probably boring to y'all, but for me, it's yet another reason to be cheerful. I try to appreciate them whenever they're offered!

All right, now for the really good bits! Barton and Richenda have returned from their adventures, and shared some laughs with me. It was so wonderful to hear that they've had some good, relaxing times, after all the shit they've had to deal with in recent months. and and to them! And a special thank you to Richenda for loving me in spite of myself and for not forsaking me no matter how hard I pushed.

And, I'm finally getting all of the paperwork for my petition for Krispy's visa in order and ready to send on to the immigration department. All I have left is some odd bits, and to run off a million photocopies- good god, the US government *does* like everything in triplicate or more. It'll all work out all right in the end though, I know. And it's certainly well worth the effort.

I've absolutely nothing else of interest to report, haven't even had the time to watch a decent movie in days. I did catch "The Impostors" on Saturday night, and I highly recommend it for those who haven't had a chance to see it. It's absolutely HILARIOUS! I nearly wet myself laughing.

Nice to see lots of journal entries from you lately. I admire you for your job, I'm too scared to go to work, but you manage well. Okay you are very knackered, but you are hanging in there very well.

Geez, Barton, for a minute there I thought I was still at work If you'd *really* like a tassel I'm sure I could get you one. I've got a few of them myself... small compensation for some grueling hours.

Ooh ooh! I can't *wait* to hear it, especially if it's good! We will definitely have to talk soon. I'm working tomorrow so I won't be up late tonight, and most days I'm in bed by 9 at the absolute latest. Any way you can sneak on around 7 or 8 or so some evening?

I haven't been hiding this week, just really, really tired. Either one of my wisdom teeth is acting up again, or I'm fighting off the ear infection that's being passed around the office. I'm one of those people who catches *everything* that people bring around, only with me it also usually mutates into something even more yucky than it started out as. I can use all of the healthy thoughts you all can spare!

I've nothing else exciting to report, it's been all work and no play for me this past week. I'd hoped to go to the Killing Joke concert and a Hallowe'en party this weekend (Hallowe'en is my favorite holiday, and I rarely pass up an opportunity for a party), but alas, it doesn't look like I'll be doing either.

Well, off I go, I've just enough time to pack a lunch and have some coffee before I head out. Talk with you all soon, and I'll try to catch up with you on the weekend, or during next week for sure, JEllen! Can't wait to hear from you!

Hiya JEllen and Willem! Thanks for the happy Hallowe'en wishes. I was kind of pissed off that I didn't get to celebrate properly, but work must come first, and play later, unfortunately. At least I got to relax for part of the day today, anyway.
