Its Sunday again, and we are having the same argument that we have had “every” Sunday for the last 22 years.
I don’t want mashed spuds, I want roasters, and I want them "BURNT"!!!
But No!!!
“Roasters have to be “slightly coloured””, she says
“That is the way my mother showed me”, she says
“That is the “proper” way of doing them”, she says
We have the same argument every time we have chips, I like my chips “BURNT”
But No!!!
“Chips have to be “slightly coloured””, she says
“That is the way my mother showed me”, she says
“That is the “proper” way of doing them”, she says
I DON’T CARE !!!
I don’t want my food done the “Proper” way,
I want it done “MY” way
I want marmalade on my chip sandwiches
I want my bananas on toast
I want my egg yolk soft
I want blood dripping out of my meat
“AND I WANY MY SPUDS BURNT” !!!
But I love her so much that I don’t argue that much,,, and I will probably land up with them done her way again

You could do the cooking. You could even arrange to remove some potatoes at the slightly done stage and continue with your own portion until it was properly burnt (guess which side I'm on ).

"You could do the cooking"
She wont let me do that king of cooking, she says she is the woman in our house
she will only let me cook the currys and other strange thing that I put in my wok
"You could even arrange to remove some potatoes at the slightly done stage and continue with your own portion until it was properly burnt"
Tried that, but all the spuds have to go in at the same time, and you can't leave any in later cos we all have to eat at the same time
The only thing she likes to burn in the meat, and I like my meat with the blood coming out of it
I think I might have to build another kichen

I agree with SEf, sort of.
Next Sunday you cook the dinner *your way* with burnt spuds. Mrs Manda may find that she too prefers burnt spuds, and future sunday dinners will be with burnt spuds.

Opppss just noticed, my post #4 was a simpost with your post #3 Manda.
Ok, next Sunday, take Mrs Manda to a pub, which serves Sunday dinner, and request that the cook, burns your spuds. Mrs Manda gets a day off cooking, and you get burnt spuds.

simposts happen
I do take Mrs Manda to the pub some Sundays, and I do get my spuds darker
but have you ever tried trying to tell the waitress that you want to have your food burnt, all they will put down is "Well done"

Oh dear deary dear How many years have you been putting up with this mental torture!? I agree totally that roast spuds should be 'well cooked' towards the burnt end of the spectrum, and totally agree aobut meat ment to be bleading (and still bleeitng cooing or mooing ) when it hits the plate Hmm, could you get up relaly relaly early one Sunday and start off the cooking of the Sunday roast before she is Up?

I do get up early on sundays,
so next sunday at about 6:30 in the morning I will put the spubs in the oven, and they should be done before she gets up
she will moan about it being her job, but at least I will have one Sunday with proper roast spubs

I like roast spuds
I like mashed spuds when they are in the pot before they go on the plate, and I like to lick the spoon after they have been dished out
but I dont like them on my plate
I think its cos my mom used to mash the spuds up with swede, and I realy hate swede.
so I spent most of my young days trying to get away from mashed spuds

My mash spuds never come out right, I think its at least partly down to the difficulity nowdays of getting decent spuds to make em with

I know what you mean, some spuds are no good for roasters, they go rock solid before they are cooked right,
I think the best spuds for mash are the ones with a lot of wax in them,I forgot the names of them
you should ask at the greengrocers for spuds for mash

Yeh, the best spuds are defaintley those from a dedicated green grocers Actually I can't even think if we have a green grocers anywhere in Cambridge There is a fruit and veg stall on teh market sometimes, and I can get spuds from the Organic urban farm shop over the road from me; Where the potatos at the moment come from, they are a bit 'new' actually, the potatos that is, so I don't know how wlel they'l roast up, but I think I will give it a go otonight.... I've just been thinking about dinner and I've come up with a plan Using the pan I cooked the sausage in this morning/afternoon I'll fry the beefsteak, after having diced it up, I'l putt in some onion and some of the loverly fresh mushrooms I got a couple days ago and fry them together, getting the flavouring up off the pan from the spicey sausage I cooked in it at the same time Then I'll pop in some red wine to deglase the pan and get all the flavours off it then I'll probalby transfer it to a larger sauce pan, and aadd a little water and a stock cube and simmer it till the sauce reduced down Whilst doing that I'll have cleaned the spuds and put them in the oven with some butter on them to roast up and I've some nice green beans I got the other day; With them I'm going to be tempted to fry them in a little* butter with garlic and some dried oragino or mixed herbs to soften them up a bit and get em nice and hot and when the beef/redwine/onion/msushroom has reduced down I'll put that on teh plate, with the garlic green beans and the roasties sounds like a plan to me

'The petition for burnt tatties' I did the spuds in the oven relaly* well cooked/burnt and did the thing with the beef stake, sliced into strips, ton of garlic and a mountain of mushrooms, in teh used earlier in the day frying pan, and with some wine chucked in was lush, wish I'd done more tatties though, I think that must just about be the first time I've actually cooked roast potatos this year

Useually the case here I normally just use white wine or red wine vinigar instead, in some ways, and certianly in some dishs it works better than a glass of red wine (we never have wite wine in teh house) But there was a half glass of Rioja left in teh bottle I was drinking at about 3 AM this mroning and I didn't relaly* fancy drinking any booze today
