Just a note to Welcome you to the ranks of the ACEs
When I started I found <./>A573833</.> So you Want to be a good Ace - to be a really good place to start as it sets out the "conventions" that we use.
BTW - You’ll find the Welcomes for Sense of Place and 360 at <./> A726419</.>
I have made a "Hints and Links for New Researchers" page at <./>A719840</.> you are more than welcome to use it at any time for your Welcomes if you find that it’s useful.
If I can help in any way just drop me a line

howdee globalbolshevik nice of you to pop in, allways nice to have visitors, would you like some and
,
as for me becomeing a ACE,it was a bit of being asked and a bit of asking,it was sergested by one of the ACEs that I put my name down to be one, but I did not put it down untill I had learned a little bit more about H2G2 (and I still know just a little bit),a ACE goes round to welcome new people to H2G2, and help them find there way around, and be there if they need any help, there is other things, but for me they are not as important, hope you visit again there is allways and
waiting
speak to you soon

Hi GB (and Manda),
No one gets chosen to be an ACE, it's a voluntary thing. I was the one who noticed Manda welcoming newbies, and recommended her to join. She's doing a great job too If you want to join, then simply post to the <./>Aces-Recruit</.> page.
You can find out all about ACEs and acing at the Aces' page. Basically, the job of ACEs is to meet new researchers and make them 'stick' to h2g2. That means that we give them helpful hints and links, point them to guide entries that they might be interested in, and generally be nice to them; we do this to try to get more people interested and contributing to the h2g2 community. Also, if you're an ACE you get all kinds of neat stuff like previews/access to new site features and access to an offsite e-group. And the really really great thing is that you get an ACE's badge on your space!

*Waves to Manda*
I've decided to cut short my name for a few days; I don't really know why though. I'll probably change it back to the good old "Rocket Man - Ace - Guru - Support GuideDog @ A745887" today
No hurry to join up GB, is there? Now you know exactly what being an ace means

G'day globalbolshevik,
Mind if I add my 2 cents worth??
*waves to manda and Rocket Man*
manda's comment on getting to know h2g2 is a good one - if you are interested in ACEing it's a great idea to get to know the site a bit better than most - some new researchers ask some curly questions and, while you can always get help to answer, it's much nicer if you can answer their questions yourself. The more you get to know h2g2 and the more involved you get in various aspects of it the more equipped you are to be a good ACE.
I think, too, that an ACE has a responsibility to be a good h2g2 "citizen" - and, in my opinion, that means being friendly, polite, diplomatic, tolerant, helpful etc (sounds like a Boy Scout doesn't it??)
Hope that all this helps
'scuse I for sticking my nose in

Hi Manda,
Great to have you along. I guess acing 360 is still a bit of a challenge but please do call if you need anything from me/us. Always happy to help (if I can!)
Maggy
