Kerr_Avon - hunting stray apostrophes and gutting poorly parsed sentences

Why the blue blazes does Windows Media Player think my Fairport Convention - Live at Cropredy 08 CD is 'The Best of Uriah Heep'?

Can anyone see a link here?

No. I would blame the shiteness of the labelling system, which is... shall we say... less than comprehensive.

See, I've had it completely fail to recognise albums before, which doesn't really surprise me, given the obscurity of some of the folk/rock/punk stuff I've given it to deal with - not knowing what the Hell Men They Couldn't Hang - Night of the 1000 Candles is forgivable. But getting completely the wrong details is a new one on me, also, Fairport Convention are one of the more mainstream bands I've given it to play with - I'm surprised it ballsed up that one.

I think the way WMP recognises music is by the length of the tracks...

So generally when it comes up with weird leftfield suggestions it is because, quite conincidentally, the thing they suggest is the closest match in terms of track lengths!

Ah, well, you learn something new every day! Uhria Heep must have some long songs then - some of the tracks on Live and Cropredy are over 7 minutes long.

1: Use a good tagger (I use Picard http://musicbrainz.org/doc/MusicBrainz_Picard)

2: Why on earth are ripping stuff in the Windows Media Audio format when you can choose from formats that are more widely supported (mp3) or that offer more freedom in terms of licensing conditions (ogg & flac) or better sound quality (flac and apple lossless ac3's) or greater compression (non lossless apple ac3's)smiley - spacesmiley - huh

I just reread my last two posts and realised I may of come on a bit strongsmiley - spacesmiley - sorrysmiley - space but I an a bit **** retentive about ripping and tagging - I rip into the (lossless) flac format for maximum fidelty and as for tagging I currently well over 200 open edits over at Musicbrainz smiley - blush

Basically HD I'm stuck with WMP on this machine because it's a works laptop and they get a bit sniffy about extra non-work related software! Believe me, left to my own devices I wouldn't be going any where near it.

It's the 2008 festival 2legs, if that helps. Not got the case to hand so I can't scan through the credit list for you, I'm afraid.
