A Conversation for CELTIC DEVON
Old map of Devonia

There are some interesting maps of old Devon available on the following site

One in particular may be worth mentioning here.
Johannes Blaeu's map of 1650, shows detail of villages, towns, cities and hundereds in Devon at the time.

However if you look closely at this map you will notice the reference to 'DANMONII' - the British tribe from which Devon got its name.
This copy shown in the link is not the best for that level of detail (I have access to a full sized copy which helps a fair bit) but that reference can still just about be seen - in central Devon just to the North/East of Dartmoor, next to the town named as Woonford.
I find this reference interesting, and I wonder why Blaeu included it in a 17th century map.
The map is also interesting because it shows slightly different boundaries to those current.
