Here’s a quote from W.G. Hoskin’s “Devon and its People”.( Exeter:A Wheaton and Company, 1968: p.111):
“Devonians colonized Newfoundland so thoroughly that practically all the old families on the Island are said to be of Devonshire origin.”
I’d like to wish “Nadelek Lauen ha Bledhin Niweth Mat” (Merry Christmas and Happy New Year) from Newfoundland to all our friends and relatives in “Dear Old Devon”. Here to lots more lively discussions in the coming year!

As you probably know Tivvyboy, Newfoundland Time is three and a half hours behind Britain. Midnight here is 3:30 am your time. So, by the time we ring in the New Year all but the real diehards will probably have retired in Devon. Still, we’ll raise a glass to you.
Newfoundland is the first place in North America to celebrate the New Year. We’re half an hour ahead of the Canadian Maritimes and one and a half hours ahead of Eastern Standard Time - places like Toronto, Boston and New York.
All the best in the New Year. Cheers!

"The Hitchhiker's Guide to the Galaxy is a wholly remarkable book. It has been compiled and recompiled many times and under many different editorships. It contains contributions from countless numbers of travellers and researchers."
