I have noticed the Ask H2G2 entry regarding free IPS’s and more to the point I have read Jabs contribution.

I am a telewest broad band user. I have had and account on FreeISP for over a year, I us it mostly for offline backup. This I have to do by phone line as they don’t allow you to upload by Broad band to FTP servers. “Caller ID is part of the site security”. How ever I have not had any trouble using the service for browsing and downloading over the telewest phone line or telewest Broad band.

As for UkO2.co.uk I administer a friends website on this service, again form my telewest phone line as above “Caller ID is part of the site security”

Both of these ISP fall in to the OK bracket as far as I am concerned, nothing outstanding but not bad, for a 56KV90 ISP with 0845 accesses. Yes some times I have found it hard to get on and yes they send you advertising mail but that’s only normal for free service 0845 dialup services.

Prier to going Broad band I used telewest dial up and FreeNetName, FreeServe, AOL, Yahoo, WHSmiths, Tesco, Line One, Tandy, all dialup over telewest phone line services.


I have posted here to avid the ASK thread turning in to an flam war as have don with the majority of threads on this subject.

I must admit when I read Jab's reply, I found it a bit confusing I'm not very good at the tech. side of things

When I got my pc, after all the hassle I'd had with Telewest, they were the last company I wanted as my ISP, I use aol and my next door neighbour (also a Telewest User) I think is on her third ISP, so I know Telewesters are not that restricted. I'll use your valid reason for not posting that in the ASK thread.

I'll add a few of your links now and more later
