Hi,
I'm a student at the georgia intstitute of technology, atlanta, usa. We (U1306707, U1316553, and U1297534) are interested in studying h2g2 for a class project - we would like to conduct short informal phone interviews with members. Due to some difficulty we experienced in contacting the management, we elected to contact members individually, trying our best not to break the house rules in any manner: our method of asking people has been to put up our contact information and inviting people to get in touch with us; we have never (to the best of my belief) asked people to give us their personal information.
There will be concerns about the privacy risks associated with such a study, and confidentiality measures we have adopted to protect the members of this site. For information about the study itself, please have a look at http://www.cc.gatech.edu/classes/AY2005/cs6470_spring/researchstudy/. We also require all participants to sign a consent form online before we agree to interview them: the form clearly states the confidentiality protection procedures, and explains the rights of the participants - the form may be viewed at http://www.cc.gatech.edu/classes/AY2005/cs6470_spring/researchstudy/webconsent_h2g2_study.html
I would like to reiterate again that we have no interest whatsoever in preserving any contact information whatsoever. I hope this information is sufficient to address any concerns you might have about our study. Please feel free to contact me personally at 'arvind AT cc DOT gatech DOT edu', or the group at 'h2g2_study AT cc DOT gatech DOT edu'
sincerely,
Arvind Venkataramani (U1306707), Britt Caldwell(U1316553), Madhur Khandelwal(U1297534)
