Do you know Argos do 3 different kinds of chocolate fountain...

...and not one coffee grinder!

Honestly, you would think that some of the customers for their 50 odd varieties of espresso and capuccino makers might want to grind their own beans, but apparently not.

I blame Nigella, unsurprisingly.

Dai's still suffering with the old cracked ribs, so I threw the book at him - the Hairy Bikers cookbook that is, and told him to choose something he fancied eating for dinner. He chose steak with bearnaise sauce. Now Ok, I could've just got the sauce from a jar or a packet, but thoght no, I like cooking, so I'll make it properly.

And as for the egg whites left over - I of course consulted the Domestic Goddess, and found a recipe for pistachio macaroons - the recipe she claims she's proudest of in the whole book. Gluten free treat, said I! But it required finely ground pistachios, hence my fruitless search for the coffee grinder.

I made it with a food processor in the end, although I've only ended up with a dozen of the meringuey discs, whereas she reckoned you'd get 40. I suspect I may have a lot of pistachio butter cream left over.

Dai's already baggsied licking the bowl!

Did lead to a rtaher surreal text this afternoon to my sister:

"Could Jeeves grind some pistachios for me this afternoon?"

Jeeves being the pet name for my sis's very efficient and proficient other arf.

Sho - employed again!

is that the Nigella Express Cook-book, Bea?

And... what you need is one of those mni food processors, methinks. My coffee-bean grinder would have died with anything other than rock-hard coffee beans.

good luck with your search!

No it was the Domestic Goddess one, specialises in baking.

I did in the end go for a mini processor, which is great, and I used the blender for the sauce, and the whisk attachment to make the egg whites, so I think all in all it was a useful addition to my kitchen.

I have a mini processor thing
but smiley - chef has gone all precious and insisted that we get the Kitchen Aid food processor to match his mixer and blender.

sigh.

You might consider, as we did, one of these: http://www.cuisinart.co.uk/jkcm/default.aspx?pg=1645 . Ihave had one for about 4 months and it makes brilliant coffee, and keeps it hot for hours.

They cost £139, but I've seen them down in our local CostCo for about £90.

I like the look of that. but I rarely make coffee, so I use my Italian-stylee stove-top jobby.

I've cut right down on my coffee intake, but if it is a good cup of good coffee... I can't resist.

Although lately I've shown an alarming trend away from my usual cup of black to a rather girly huge cup of cappuccino or Milchkaffee (which has even more milk) smiley - yikes
