First up, welcome to h2g2 - it does take a bit of getting used to!
I'd recommend you read through the message left for you by your ACE, it's full of good advice.
Secondly, you'll quickly find that h2g2 is not a chat-site - conversations tend to be more polite, and responses are not always instant. The best place for you to start is probably Miscellaneous Chat, where you'll find some friendly people willing to talk on various topics.
