I'm not going to write any. I'm not really interested in history, except the really old stuff.

Great work, Woodpigeon - I'm sure it won't be long before we're all raising a smiley - stout to salute this Entry's progress towards the front page! smiley - ok

The only possible problem I can see now is that the Writing Guidelines suggest that five footnotes is about the right amount to have, and you've got quite a lot more than that! Could you possibly incorporate some of them into the main text?

Hi Ormondroyd (and happy birthday!),

Thanks for the advice - I have decided to merge a couple of footnotes into the main body of the text, but I think the remaining footnotes should stay, as they are either not really part of the historical sequence of the story, or too detailed for this outline history.

I have changed the "partial independence" paragraph somewhat also, as I needed to clarify that Britain did grant home rule to Ireland before the 1916 rebellion. If you see any problems with the changed text, please let me know!

Thanks everyone for your input.

A great review although when you say that the Black and Tans were sent into Ireland it would be fair to say that they were more brutal than the IRA. The Black and Tans drove into Croke Park in Dublin and randomly shot at members of the crowd watching a game of Gaelic footbal. Nearly everyone shot was Catholic. I am not condoning the action of the IRA who the previous night had brutually shot and killed all the high ranking British intelligence officals but this was in war time and they did not kill innocent civilians. I realise that the review may upset some people but I am only stating facts and do not wish to offend any one.
