Whoami - iD dislikes punctuation

Hi there!

I think your welcome is good, and you certainly hit the right, friendly tone.
However, my one concern is that you need to add some things about the Guide - after all, that's what h2g2 is about when it comes down to it.

I usually let the Italics do the explaining, by linking to <./>Read</.>, <./>Talk</.>, <./>Contribute</.>. Also, there are few links more worthwhile than one to the <./>Smiley</.> page, alongside one to <./>ThePost</.> smiley - thepost. Beyond that, it really is your own preference, I suppose - we're each of us unique and that's why we're more valuable than some automatic welcome bot.

With a bit of luck, I'll see you on the aceforum soon! smiley - smiley

Hi Andrew sorry it took me so long to get back to you, the trip out turned into a night in with a bottle smiley - redwine and a smiley - hangoversmiley - sorry

These points may have been mentioned before but i will repeat them anyway just in case. Mentioning spicing up your page is a great page to mention as it gives a slow intro to guide ML, so i dont think there is a need to mention the guide ML clinic as it can be confusing for newbies.

It is worth knowing about named entries. Rather than giving a list of numbers to check - it helps to use the <./>namedentries</.> Click on the link to get the full list and also how to use them but basically you can use < . / >smileys < / . > (with no spaces) to create a direct link ie <./>smileys</.>

You mention the list of clubs which is great but i tend to use a general link to <./>thepost</.> and explain it has a link of clubs and societies.

Its also helpful to link to a newbie intro page such as feisors at A719840 although many aces such as rocketman, mel and mr manda have all created useful pages.

I think that you have been around h2g2 long enough to know the site and how to help newbies.

Good luck smiley - ok

Mort

Emmily ~ Roses are red, Peas are green, My face is a laugh, But yours is a scream

Hi Mort and all smiley - smiley (smiley - tongueout to Fishy)

Hi again Andrew

I agree with what Mort's said, (I usually do) Feilsor's Hints and Links for New Researchers - A719840 was one of the help pages I suggested in post #2 of this thread. smiley - smiley More newbie friendly than <./>DontPanic</.> IMO and explains tag, the other help pages may too, I've not looked at them. <./>DontPanic-Tour</.> on the other habd is quite good. Though, not really a help page.

Where you say "Anything else you might need, ask me, or another ACE" you could link that <./>ACE</.>

And erm, it could be with brightening up a bit, with a few smileys.

It's already quite long, so it's probably not a good idea to add too much more to it. (says she who probably has the longest. smiley - laugh) If you could add a sentence about Writing-Guidelines and or something like <./>RandomEditedEntry</.> so there is something about the Guide included.

If you wouldn't mind doing another welcome for us, we'll make sure Abi remembers to take a look when she's in the office, assuming she's recovered from the hangover from todays party. smiley - biggrin

Hi!smiley - cool It's good to see you've joined h2g2! I am an ACE, or Assistant Community Editor, my job is to make you feel comfortable settling in to h2g2. I would like to point out that this isn't an automated message, as these are sometimes mistaken for.smiley - ok

One thing I reccomend to do to start off would be to check out a few clubs and societies, many of wich are listed at A660340, but remember that many clubs and societies that you might be interested in aren't listed there. The best way to find these is to jump into a conversation that sounds interesting, click on the name of someone who looks interesting (this will take you to their personal space), and mostly likely they will belong to some group or another that you'll enjoy.smiley - biggrin

Also, you can get started reading the guide by getting a <./>randomeditedentry</.>. smiley - winkeye

I see that you've already changed around your Personal Space. If you really want to make it shine, visit either the <./>GuideML-Clinic</.>, or the "Spicing Up Your Page" entry at A690518.

Anything else you might need, ask me, or another <./>ACE</.>, or go to the <./>DontPanic</.> help center.
Remember, this is a friendly place!

smiley - towel - Here is the list of <./>Smileys</.>

the remaining suggestions i choose to ignore becuase either they somehow slightly contradict previous suggestions, or i just feel like it.

OK

This is a very important posting! Congratulations you are about to be made an ACE!!!

The first thing you need to know is that while there are many DNA sites, you are only responsible for greeting newbies on h2g2 and 360. When you use the newusers page, make sure you click the box for users on this site only.

I am about to give you your badge and sign you up to the ACE egroup. You will get a single daily digest of all the news from the ACEforum, though you can set it for individual emails is you like.

Any questions, just ask!
