Ah, an era is over...

The era of my beloved laptop. After four years of service, my decade-old laptop has finally stopped booting. It appears either the trackpoint or keyboard failure, but either way I think I'm just going to call it a day.

Now to find a smaller version of SuSE so that my desktop can run at an acceptable speed...

Bury it with honour. It gave it's self as a willing sacrifice that the Dark Hill would not fall....Sorry, I've become addicted to FiveUS, especially Killer Instinct and CSI.

Right until the end it struggled with operating systems too heavy for it, and versions of Firefox that dug deep into its processing power.

It might be fixable, but the trouble is even if I diagnose it (reasonably likely, given the internet at my fingertips) the last laptop I took apart was not going back together any time soon. Instead I salvaged the memory and stuck it in this one.

Get a gun. A big gun, preferably the biggest you can get hold of.
Take the laptop out to the woods, blindfold it and blast it apart. That'll teach it for breaking on you!
It won't do it again after that treatment smiley - winkeye

It's not very easy to get a gun in the UK, even in Leeds.

Clive the flying ostrich: Amateur Polymath | Chief Heretic.

I long harboured ambitions to smash my malfunctioning PC with the sturdier of my neighbour's collection of sledge hammers, and then attack the bits with a set of needle-nose pliers, and giggling, render the broken pieces down to a form of sticky, grey paste.

However the hard-drive spontaneously combusted and was flung out of the window and extinguished in a bucket of sand before I ever had the opportunity.

True Story.

I remember the burning!

I have no wish to grind my darling down to paste- but then, my laptop very rarely functioned anything other than perfectly. Hurrah for IBM.
