The latest abusive email that I received this evening really tips the scales of offensive. Not only does it make certain racist comments, it also threatens my personal safety, as well as my family's. I've passed it on to the appropriate authorities, and will be passing it on to anyone from this site who emails me (Egon & Potholer, my shaw.ca address has been down for a while, and I know you email me there. If you email me via the bigfoot address, I'm available there) and wants to see it.

Note for the folks who wish to attack me personally - I AM CURRENTLY LIVING IN CANADA. I AM 5000 MILES AWAY FROM YOU. YOU WILL NOT BE ABLE TO HURT ME PHYSICALLY.

As well as this, it makes me sad that my original journal post was moderated. Yes, I did email them back and ask them to change it, like an civilised person would. If they choose to, I'm fine with that. That is how you react to someone doing something you don't like, not calling them a s, threatening their homes and generally acting like an abusive fool. Emailing from an activemail account also means that I know you are a Telewest customer. Telewest log the changes in email addresses. All they have to do is check the email out and see who sent it - nothing you do via their system is not logged. That's how they ensure non-abuse of their email system. to the person that sent it.

I am so sick of this. It's been weeks. It's fine to be upset, but at some point, you have to get over it and find another way through life.

NB - I know not all of the people who are digiboxers are behaving like this. Just so you know. In fact, right now, I feel sorry for those who would never do this in a million years.

And of course, just as I write about my email address, it decides to work again. All emails go through the address on my page.

Regardless of the whole digibox controversy (which I have no opinion about), it is terrible that anyone should react that way to you!

You were planning to return to the UK some time though, Saturnine. It is a bit hard to tell whether the threats are idle ones or if these people seriously intend to try anything of the sort. Regardless of which, they have certainly shown what they are like. However, using a digibox (or being friends with some users) probably had very little to do with them being that way!

Sat, did you get my mail (via bigfoot) last week. I just realised the title "Hi" might have looked a bit spammish, so I have re-sent it with a more obviously unspammy one?

Regarding the validity of threats, I think the bulls#!t-to-reality ratio is pretty huge for the kind of people behind email attacks, and they'll probably soon get distracted wondering why their family tree isn't any wider 10 generations back than it was at their parent's level, or trying to count beyond thirteen without using their feet.

Saturnine- Take heart, there are many more people here who are outraged at anyone (digibox user or not) who respond with such idiotic vitriol. The fact they do simply puts others in a bad light, and I'm surprised (but only a little) that they haven't figured that out yet.

*Taggers* are appreciated by some in some places, whereas most other places their spray can art is inappropriate. That it is erased, painted over, and prevented generally there is a parallel to Hootoo. Give me a scrub brush, give me a roller, give me teflon paint!

Saturnine.I have not posted to any of your threads ,but feel that i must on this occasion.I WAS a digibox user,so am not best pleased about what has happened to us,but if i have anythin to say i prefer to say it in the open,not by sending nasty e-mails ,and i do not condone this sort of action.1 might seem to be covering old ground here,and don't want to do that,but i wonder if your actions would have been the same if your mother or grandparents main way of communicating with others was through the digibox access to h2.I am an older user of the service,be it wrong or otherwise,and am not stupid or ill educated.It is a shame that ohter digibox users felt it neccessary to send threatening mail to you,but it is equally a shame that you felt it neccessary to take away the pleasure from many of us,because of the minority.I have already posted that the course of action some are taking will serve no purpose when we want our access given backk to us,through the appropritae channels.i have no more to say on the subject.but would ask you to try and recall how you felt when you yourslf used your digibox,and lost access to the site.I understand that many came forward with offers of help.Would that be because they felt for you at the time??I rest my case.

I think the offers of help for Sat were probably at least as much to do with people specifically valuing her as a researcher who they knew as they were to do with any more general feelings of charity.

smurfles, the community has responded in regard to exdigibox users. Several threads and at least two pages are in order to help ex-digibox users find cheap or free gear to access. That is what makes the attacks even more puzzling, they actually make people less anxious to help, IMHO.

Having just read the forwarded email, I can say that no-one, regardless what anyone here might think of them, deserves to receive that kind of unplesant, bilious, criminal shit.

I've kept pretty quiet on things surrounding the digibox issue here, as I'm not going to enter that debate. But if the person who sent that email is reading this: You are scum. And also full of shit.

I'm fairly certain every last word of that email is a lie. And as for the threat to come to your house- i for one would like to see them trying to walk across the ocean to get there.

Unless Jesus sent the email. But then, if he did, I'd be screwed anyway...

I've just replied to the human response that Telewest sent, with headers, which means the email sender can now be tracked down to their account, and may or may not be contacted by the company. They do mention in their automatic reply that they also take legal action against serious misuse of their services, so who knows what might happen...

Hell, if it's Jesus, he's probably got much bigger things to pull you up about than digiboxes...

Well if it is Jesus then perhaps we should start an new religous festival...
