so... who's going to chain themselves to the towers? and who's going to help blow the beggars up?
I spent a lot of time growing up in Wincobank overlooking the towers (and possibly in Shiregreen overlooking them too, but I can't clearly remember that) and I'm going to miss them.
Ah the nostalgia of the expat.

I'm going to miss them too. Blummin' EOn.
At the base of one of them someone, years ago, wrote "still can't hear your mouth" Always wondered what that was about whenever I passed them.

I haven't been back to Sheffield since July last year. If I'd known I wasn't going to see them again I'd have videoed the drive up and the drive down.
Oh well...

Doubleplusbah!
At least they didn't go without a fight!

grr...Shame indeed...
those towers were a personal landmark for me too.
The slip-road onto the M1 at Tinsley was a good place to start hitchhiking from, so many journeys started from there.
I rather liked the idea of turning them into giant flower vases...bloody EoN.
alec.

Can I just mention that now I've seen the space where the towers used to be, in the flesh, so to speak, that I have one comment only.
How the heck am I supposed to know where my motorway exit is now?

I've just wasted an hour on that site looking at my old stamping grounds. I'm all cross eyed - (and misty eyed when I saw the towers) - so I'm off to bed to dream of dripping bread-cakes.

I must admit that since the eggbox has been replaced with a fountain, and as long as Atkinsons is still there, the city centre is a big draw for me. And the fact that I get to stock up on books in all the charity shops while I trek all the way down the moor and back is a plus.
But... if it rains you don't get wet at Meadowhall, even though it has no charity shops.
