Britain is currently bottom of the table of European public holidays, with eight compared to the European average of 12 [URL Removed by Moderator]
This June we get the benefit of a one-off long weekend to celebrate the Queen's golden jubilee. But we have been promised more. My proposal is for the Government to solve everybody's problems by declaring the 14th February a national holiday. That way couples can enjoy a guilt-free day together in loveydoveydom, or argue their way round Homebase, whatever best suits them. And single people can avoid the outside world by staying at home, reflecting over why exactly nobody has sent them a card. Or spend the day at a free museum with a friend, or go to the pictures, or call their mothers...
I believe this way everybody wins.

Well down under we could always use a public holiday, we don't have that many, and really I could use a public holiday to deal with the sheer volume of valentines mail that I receive.
It's quite an incredible effort to open that many letters and try to reply to them sincerely, that I have to find a solution.
Or maybe I should just stop sending them to myself....
Oh Well...
