I've just read on imdb that there's a rumour that David Tennant is a possiblity to play Bilbo Baggins in the Hobbit film. Think there are a few other people in the running though.
And there's a mention of a possible Dr Who movie too with DT.

OK, so they could just be pure rumours, but it would be fun. Have to say though, he's just a bit too tall for a hobbit.

For the LotR movies, they deliberately got normal size actors and used various camera tricks to make them appear smaller. I presume they'd do that again for The Hobbit, since it is/they are being produced by Peter Jackson.
Moreover, I gather they are meant to be in direct continuity with the LotR movies, including keeping Sir Ian McKellen as Gandalf, so whoever they cast as Bilbo would have to be able to age believably into Ian Holm. I believe at one point (around when they were finishing off LotR) there was an intention for Holm to do it with 'young' make-up on.

JB, "I believe at one point (around when they were finishing off LotR) there was an intention for Holm to do it with 'young' make-up on."
Would that be possible? The amount of consistency needed to maintain that appearance throughout the whole production would be very iffy, I should think. It works for "flashbacks" of characters, but a whole movie?
Don't know who I'd like to see in the role of Bilbo, I have a very particular mental image and can't think of anyone who fits it. If DT did it, he'd have to be willing to allow himself to get "plump" to look middle-aged hobbitish.

That would be why they didn't go through with that idea. It was pretty early on anyway. Even now, they're only in the mid-stages of planning.

Oh yeah! The would have to do something to DT to make him a little less twiggy. I really want to take him to McDonalds or something. Then I could fatten him up a bit and get to have a few meals with him...

Somehow picturing DT at Micky D's having a big mac...no, the mind reels!
After seeing him on Graham Norton, it might be interesting conversation over that lunch, though.

Just as a point of interest, if they *do* make a DT Dr Who film, where would they put it in Time? Yes, I know he can jump all over creation and back again, but would they try to make it consisent with the series, do you think? Just pondering out loud...

They confirmed at the San Diego Comic Con this weekend that they're not working on a Who movie with David T. David also confirmed that if he is playing Bilbo Baggins, no-one's approahce dhim about it...
If a Who movie was to be produced, I'd much prefer them to just recast their own Doctor, like they did in the 1960s. Give a completely new interpretation of the role for the big screen and retell a classic story with bigger, better effects.
One of my mates suggested David Thewliss, which I really like the idea of. Now he's familiar to Harry Potter fans, he'd be perfect.

Not sure if I'd like it so much if they did a film totally unrealated to the tv series. While I agree that they'd have to do it well if they were to use DT to get it to fit right in the TV timeline, but I'd quite like it to have some connection to what we've been watching over the years.

I found the Dimensions in Time story they did in 1993 on youtube, I think something like that would work well... but with a plot this time

Good point. The actual time travelling itself can be as much a plot device, like beaming or warp drive, than a story line.

Hence why Moffat should be awesome, given Silence in the Library and the madame de Pompadour one...

Yeah, Moffatt does seem to do all the really scary stories. Should be good. Shame about Matt Smith and his weird outfit.

i wouldn't say he just does the scary stories... although he does. I think his writing is more clever, he's able to write far more complex stories

Suppose lots are that Blair witch kind of story where the baddie isn't clear or seen or understood. Like the empty child wasn't understood until the end, or the Weeping Angels that get you when you don't see them.
Key: Complain about this post
