Match 2: The Master V Omega
Match 3: The Silurians V The Black Guardian
Match 4: The Daleks V The Cybermen

when judging doctors, go by character, personality, enemies they've defeated, how they died etc. the most recent generation may not always be the best in a battle.

I really can't resist this.
Doctor vs Doctor.
1: William Hartnell v Colin Baker.
Hardly a fair fight. Hartnell, a great actor of his day, had the ability to make the part his own. He had some groundbreaking stories, the Daleks, the mystery, the excitement of doing something new.
Colin Baker got some very shoddy scripts, never really got a chance to make the role his own and has onyl recently shown what he could have done with the part in some of the Big Finish audio productions.
A win to Hartnell, but not because of any lack of effort on Baker's part.
2: Paul McGann v Peter Davison.
Let's see...McGann is a great actor, saddled with the WORST script and story in Who history.. He made it watchable. Points to him.
Davison helped us all recover from Tom Baker and has Castrovalva, Black Orchid, Earthshock and The Caves of Androzani to his credit.
Sadly for Paul, I have to hand this one to Peter Davison.
3: Patrick Troughton v Sylvester McCoy.
Another tough choice. Troughton obviously enjoyed the role, had some great stories and managed to keep The Doctor viable after Hartnell left. McCoy, on the other hand, doesn't really compare as an actor. And he got saddled with some utterly bizarre celebrity cameos, some bad stories and the worst companion ever. But...the last season...I have to go with my personal prejudices, and "Ghost Light", and give this to McCoy.
4: Pertwee v Baker.
Ohhh dear.
The two strongest and most different portrayals of The Doctor don't really bare comparison. Pertwee's Doctor was fascinating and charismatic. Baker's was alien and bizarre. With Pertwee, I always felt that I knew what The Doctor was up to. With Baker, I was sure he'd do the right thing but was frequently confused as to how and why.
I have to fall back on the fact that I was just too young to have seen all of Jon Pertwee's run and therefore have to give this to Tom Baker.

I agree. Tom Baker was really a good Doctor as he combined all the three earlier Doctors' characteristics. He had William Hartnell's strong sense of justice, Patrick Troughton's eccentric behaviour, and Jon Pertwee's inquiring scientific mind and moments of exciting action. I think what makes him so popular is precisely that: he combines all the three past Doctors' personalities while adding his own unique element of character, making him likeable to everyone.
I actually prefer Sylvester McCoy as he was more absent-minded and eccentric like Patrick Troughton, and he was also funny in his first season. However Tom Baker lasted longer than any other Doctor and put in great performances in each episode, unlike Hartnell, Troughton or Pertwee, who sometimes weren't so good.

Match 1: The Sontarans V The Ice Warriors - I'd say the Sontarans as they're trained warriors and experts at all forms of war. The Ice Warriors have strong reptile body armour, but they can't move very easily because of this armour. Also, they only have small sonic guns attached to their wrists, whereas the Sontarans have a variety of armour. I would say however, that the Ice Warriors are better protected.
Will post the rest later.

Dark Side of the Goon Posted Sep 15, 2002
Match 1: The Sontarans V The Ice Warriors
Short match.
"Hit him in the Probic Vent!" cries an Ice Warrior.
"I can't reach it!" responds his comrade "I have no fingers!".
Fingers are essential to Universal Domination, so this one goes to the Sontarans.
Match 2: The Master V Omega
Another short match. Omega sets a lethal deathtrap, the Master stumbles into it and apparently dies, only to reappear as Omega is celebrating and hit him over the back of the head with an ornate clock. The Master wins.
Match 3: The Silurians V The Black Guardian
Let's see...omniversal force of Evil vs some Telepathic Lizards. Is this even a contest? The Silurians were beaten off by UNIT, so they probably don't pose much of a threat to The Black Guardian.
Match 4: The Daleks V The Cybermen
Remember what I said about fingers being necessary for universal domination? Here's the exception that prooves the rule.
The Daleks are clearly the superior monster here, by virtue of being very actually nasty and genocidal.
There is much ado about stairs, but the Daleks demonstrate their superior evil by herding large numbers of people together and exterminating them until they agree to mass-charge the Cybermen waving gold bullion. The result, given that the Cybermen get progressively more allergic to gold with each appearance, is terminal.

well, since nobody else is posting my views on the matchups, i might as well post mine:
Match 1: The Sontarans V The Ice Warriors - sontarans easy. the ice warriors are not powerful or smart enough to defeat one of the doctor's greatest enemies.
Match 2: The Master V Omega - the master for sure. the advantage of being able to exist somewhere other then a black hole is just one of many things that puts him on top.
Match 3: The Silurians V The Black Guardian - the silurians. the black guardian needs people to do the dirty work for him so instead of fighting he would just hire the silurians to defeat someone for him. however, the silurians would rebel and the black guardian would be powerless to stop them.
Match 4: The Daleks V The Cybermen - a match for history. both are strong. both are great enemies of the doctor. both no longer have home planets. hoever, the daleks must be given the victory since they have greater weapons and an evil leader. the daleks would also create a self-destruct gold dalek who would break into the cyberman ship then explode, poisoning all the cybermen with gold.
now, her are my views on the doctor matches:
Match 1: William Hartnell V Colin Baker - the original deal gets this one. colin baker almost gets the win by having such a beautifal and sexy assistant to distract everyone, but the first doctor unfortunately got bad eyesight and forgot to wear his contact lenses, so he didn't see peri dancing on the table and decided to use his skills to defeat the 6th incarnation of himself.
Match 2: Paul McGann V Peter Davison - the 8th deal is too unsatable and lively and confident so he faces the 5th in a game of cricket, and loses by lack of skill and the fact that the ball hit himin the head.
Match 3: Patrick Troughton V Sylvester McCoy - a close battle, however, the intelligence of the 7th and his mysterious and evil nature defeats the comedian by a long shot. altho, the 2nd doctor did come close when he tried to bor the 7th to sleep by playing the flute.
Match 4: Jon Pertwee V Tom Baker - tom offers jon a jelly baby, jon is stupid and goes to takke one, steps on the 4th docs scarf, the 4th doc moves it, the 3rd sleeps and falls, so the 4th wins. however, on the + side, the 3rd doctor did get his jelly baby.
well, they are my views. please post your own.

Dearie dearie me...
Sontarans vs Ice Warriors: Ice Warriors. The Sontarans have the greater war machine but the Ice Warriors are backed up by the entire Galactic Federation. Plus, the Martians are more creative thinkers (they're the only DW monster with a sense of humour, for one thing), unlike the cloned and (one presumes) therefore rigidly hierarchical Sontarans.
Master vs Omega: Omega, cos the Master's a buffoon. The Doctor only managed to beat Omega first time round because of a complete fluke.
Black Guardian vs Silurians: depends who the BG hires to do his dirty work for him. The BG's very difficult to rate in this sort of situation as the extent of his actual raw power is never made clear in the series. Anyway, I suspect he hires Adric to crash a giant freighter into the Silurian civilisation when they're not looking, so awin for him...
Daleks vs Cybermen: Daleks, as they've learned to bypass their reliance on logic (the battle computer in Remembrance). Plus the Cybermen have a long history of underperforming in pitched battles (against the Raston, UNIT troops, Ace, etc).
The Dr vs Dr matches... well, it's a silly idea, you might as well say 'one dalek vs another dalek', unless we're talking actual fisticuffs. Physically you've got to favour Pertwee and the two Bakers, all of whom were pretty handy, in terms of brainpower it's a tie, if you're talking wits and deviousness then Troughton wins it - he's if anything even wilier than McCoy, and what's more doesn't go around saying 'look at me, aren't I secretive and manipulative' and thus tipping the bad guys off to what's going on.

Hartnell. Most definitely. The Guv'nor.
McGann. I admit I am a huge 8th Doctor fan and have followed his explits in many a novel and now, happily, audio drama. Okay . . . to date, McGann's only appeared in one TV adventure, but it's a testament to his characterisation that the writers of subsequent adventures had SO much to draw on. So much so that the 8th is now my favourite.
Troughton. He was great in the part, simple as that. (I feel a real heel doing this, I like all the actors who have played the Doctor!)
Baker. Bit unfair to match these two together so early! *l* They were both great, but for many Baker is the definitive TV Doctor.

Jeremy_Griffiths Posted Sep 25, 2002
The Sontarans would defeat the Ice Warriors through sheer weight of numbers.
The Master. I see Omega as a sad and pathetic figure, a truly tragic story in the Who pantheon. The Master would, sadly, outwit Omega.
The Silurians v the Black Guardian? Mismatch! The Black One wins.
I'll give the last one to the Cybermen. If they could produce sufficient numbers of Cyber troops, their superior mobility, plus their technology (which surely is the equal of the Daleks) would win out. Plus I like Cybermen better!

I'm not quite sure what to do here. Spook gave me a link here. And here I am. My favourite was Sylvester McCoy (though he did have some naff stories). I would probably pair him off against William Hartnell, And I wouldn't like to say who would win....

Match 1 : Sontarans, probably because they seem more militaristic. Though it would probably be close.
Match 2 : Hmm...The Master Vs Omega. I'd like to say the Master, but I can't because I think Omega would have to win. That is as long as Omega hadn't completely disapeared by then
Match 3 : Silurians, probably because I don't know enough about the black guardian.
Match 4 : The Daleks, because theres just so many of them. They're relentless. "Exterminate!"
The Doctors
Match 1 : William Hartnell, but only in mind games, because I think he was smarter (though Colin Baker wasn't stupid mind you, just in comparison between the two). If it were a physical contest Colin Baker would win hands down being the most violent doctor.
Match 2 : Paul McGann, Because I think he is a much more rounded character. And because Peter Davidson would probably disappear up his backside long before the fight started .
Match 3 : Sylvester McCoy, he both always has something up his sleeve. Even when he messes things up he has a contingency plan, and he can just say he mean't it anyway.
Match 4 : Tom Baker, Well ... hes Tom Baker
Key: Complain about this post
