Hi there Ylla!
Zarquon's Singing Fish! Started conversation Nov 16, 2001
I see you have already been contacted by an ACE. I'm new to this ACEing business, but welcome nonetheless.
How are you getting along? Have you been having a poke and a prod to see what's available?
If you click on the green box at the top of the screen (just underneath the BBC toolbar), you can see what other researchers have been writing about. Researchers love constructive feedback on their entries as there's nothing worse than being ignored. If you have a look at the guidelines for writing, you can contribute to the guide yourself.
Above all, have fun with the site. Let me know if you need any help.
Hi there Ylla!

While that's a sweet notion you'v got there Ace of Zarquon (new suit of cards! oh my) If you took a looksy on my cover page here...I am actually not new to the Guide. In all actuality i be Imaldris u36314..i've been surfing this site for over 2 years now. I thank you for your graciousness on welcoming me, however. A job well done!
That being said...I'm still locked out of my old page. Though all of these helpful people gave me advice...none of it has seemed to work. And i'm afraid i may have to resign myself to staying Ylla with the hideously large researcher number)
Thanks again!

Sorry, didn't know. Well you're the first person I've ever tried to welcome as an ACE. You have obviously far more legs on the site than I do (I started as a Researcher at the end of August 2001). What was your original number and nickname> I'll look you up.
Hi there Ylla!
Ylla Posted Dec 5, 2001
twas a fine welcome, happy welcome, the silence on this page was getting to me. legs legs legs. my legs haven't seem to've done me any good. My old researcher name is Imaldris-u36314. Garglegopeepknock. I feel sick that i can't get into my space. Will you help me ace of zarquon!???
Hi there Ylla!

Hi, Ylla,
I'm not sure that I know how to, however I'll post a notice on the ACE's e-group and maybe someone there will be able to help or give advide.
I do know, however that Grimethorpe 2k1 had this very same problem. He couldn't get into two previous identities (sequentially, not at the same time) and he couldn't get back to his old spaces. I think what happened with him, was that someone (the towers, or italics) transferred or pasted all this old stuff onto his new site, so that he had his connections and conversations, but I don't think he ever got his old number back.
I'll post it now and let you know the reply.
Hi there Ylla!
Rat, who can't remember his way round this bloody thing. Posted Dec 5, 2001
try sening a mail to [email protected] with all the account information you do know and they should sort you out
Hi there Ylla!
GreyDesk Posted Dec 5, 2001
So have you been cleaning out your cookies then?
What Rat has just said is the best policy. The only possible complication is whether you created a BBC identity to go with your h2g2 one, as I see from your U number that you're a pre-Rupert researcher. Of course I can't remember whether its a complication to have or to not have the BBC identity. But I DO know that things can be recovered - there are another two of me floating around the site somewhere
Hi there Ylla!
GreyDesk Posted Dec 5, 2001
One other thought, the login name and password are case sensitive. True, I'm assuming here that you can remember them

theres another 2 of me too (but I forgot the usernames, the U numbers and couldn't even remember a single entry I'd done )
Hi there Ylla!
Zarquon's Singing Fish! Posted Dec 5, 2001
I think the problem here is that Ylla has forgotten her username and/or password. I don't know quite when that happened.
There are still conversations on her old site. The last one is just three weeks old. She could post to them, but she would still be a stranger on her own site.

thats ok - as long as she knows her U number, the BBC thingy (email above) can send the details to the email address she registered when she signed up. (I think)
Hi there Ylla!
I'm not really here Posted Dec 5, 2001
Hi there Ylla.
I saw the call for help on the ACE forum and I brought my Guru hat with me.
These fine young ACEs are all giving you good advice, but I thought I'd add a bit anyway. Your name says that you have forgotten your BBC password, so you need to go http://www.bbc.co.uk/h2g2/guide/DontPanic-Register#8. That gives full instructions, including links, on getting a new one. You can change once you are in, in the preferences.
If you can't get into it still because you have forgotten the login name as well, then you need to send an email to h2g2 support at the address Rat mentioned.
BTW Zarquon, Grimethorpe is now back where he belongs.
Hi there Ylla!
GreyDesk Posted Dec 5, 2001
...and don't forget that when you do become your old self again, it is polite to offer the italics some *thank you* in your journal
Hi there Ylla!
Ylla Posted Dec 6, 2001
Party over here. Thank you all for your help. The is in the oven.
Here's what happened:
I logged out...forgot my bbc name and password/got my bbc name back and was told to go to "MY BBC" and change it, so i could get in again...the thing is, the danged thing says my email address is incorrect, so it won't let me do anything.
NEXT BLUNDER: whilst trying to crack my own code..i accimedentally registered under my old bbc username (Strangelove) with a new account! i'm not sure if that botched anything up or not, me now being logged in the bbc as 2 strangelove's with 2 different passwords AND h2g2 identities.
Hmm. haw. I'll try to email support again, and all of the other things mentioned!. Thank you kindly for all the swift help peoples!!
Humble Thanks,
Ylla
Hi there Ylla!
Ylla Posted Dec 6, 2001
Well. I just emailed support with all the inflammation i can remember. Hopefully they can help. If not..I suppose i'll just link myself to my old page, and go on as Ylla the of my former self.
's for all! You guys are the yum!
Spanks again and feel free to lounge around my new *sigh* home.
Hi there Ylla!
Ylla Posted Dec 12, 2001
Thanks for inquiring!........ but unfortunately i am not. arg arg arg. The problem is ...I either typed my email address in wrong when i converted my h2g2 account...or i put in an account that i must have closed. Arg. I've told h2g2 support..but they've not responded to my second email. I'm sure it will get straightened out someday...*sigh*
Oh, well. I like it here all right.

I hope you do manage to sort it out, Ylla!
Although I hadn't the technical knowledge to advise you, luckily there are people who have . Grime's now happily back with his old identity.I think he said he couldn't resist the urge to experiment.
