Hi there. I'm actually a technical writer on a professional basis, and I wish in all honesty more people would do what you're suggesting and put pen to paper (or indeed, digits to keyboard). There's no special magic skill required to be a computer journalist, despite what some magazine Editors may think.
Go for it.

97% of writing is thinking about the objective you are trying to convey, and simplifying it to it's lowest possible grade-level, to maximize the number of potential readers of your article.
Of course, that only makes up about 20% of publishing, which is why I've never sought to become a published writer - too many variables for my tastes.
Be that as it may, I love to write. Scientific papers; accounting documents (hopefully not being too creative...); historical accounts (which are fiction from the author's point of view, even in text-book entries - was the author there?!?!?); and my favorite... Science Fiction.
So, I will contune to write, and enjoy it.....
