Well, it's another miserable insomniac morning. Maybe it's just because I'm so tired, but I'm increasingly disgruntled with h2g2. I used to have so many flourishing friendships here, but now I barely touch base with a few people. I'm tired of how much arguing and rudeness is present. Not so much when I talk to my friends, but when I veer out of those grooves, well, it just seems hopeless. And to be honest, as someone who doesn't contribute to the Guide, I feel more and more out of place and undervalued. It used to be that talking and visiting and sharing was enough. I'm beginning to spend more time at other sites, more time on Facebook, more time on Stumble Upon. I like the privacy controls. I like the bells and whistles, like being able to post my artwork. I'm grateful to be featured in the Post right now, but I just feel like hootoo is lagging behind other media. That hurts my heart. I'm not leaving, not yet, because there are too many people here I still care about. But if I fade away gradually, well, that's what happened.

Yeh. Hi Ed. I actually find myself forgetting my hootoo password. FORGETTING it!!!! That could never have happened, say, two years ago. To be fair, I did change my password recently. Still, tis a grim sign.

I occasionally find myself disgruntled with hootoo for various reasons, and avoid a lot of convos for those same reasons, but have to be one of the voices of dissent when it comes to bells and whistles. Hootoo is one of few sites I can visit whenever I like because it "lacks" streaming media, etc. Once they start implementing all of that, I'll be on hootoo a LOT less. At least now I can still visit once a day.
I haven't seen a lot of arguing lately, except for one newbie who seems to have serious psychological issues. That happens sometimes and I try not to lose patience (much) with people who can't really help they way they come across. It's a lot less annoying than some of the trolls we've had.

Hey hun. I'm glad that you are able to post here more often because it's not streaming. I enjoy your journals, a lot.

I enjoy yours, too, and one of the things that does occasionally disgruntle me on hootoo is that you're not here as often as you once were.
Presumably if they implemented a bunch of bells & whistles, I could avoid those pages. And I do prefer uploading photos, etc, at Facebook where I can set privacy and allow only certain people to see. As much as I enjoy meeting all of the interesting people that frequent hootoo, I wouldn't want them all to see my photos or to know more personal stuff about me. If you know what I mean.

Just managed to comment here. I think you're not alone with your feeling that hootoo is going off the boil.

Hi Ellen, sorry you're having sleep probs again. Hope it sorts soon.
You're right re some of what's going on in hootoo just now. Does appear we have a couple of new researchers who it would appear have either escaped from some asylum somewhere or are just plain loony tunes. They're best ignored, the more folk reply to their ravings the worse they get.
Must confess I've been more 'occupied' than I intended with the Uni course so not here as frequently these days myself.
How's the Art classes? You still going to them?
Take care, chat soon.

Ellen, I also feel less than valued around here since I don't write for the Guide, either. While I'm interested in reading Peer review submissions and threads, I have neither the time nor the inclination to write, and it definitely seems lately that the community is considered more or less worthless aside from the Guide, which is a shame. Because while the Guide is an amusing pet project, it's the community here that was always sticky and vital.

Some of us are more sticky than others.
Never mind - think of it as the place where we first met. We can still keep in touch.

Yes, absolutely Edward.
ST I'll scoot over to another thread to talk about latest artwork.
PCandy, I guess I'm feeling a mixture of guilt and nostalgia. Guilt for spending time away, and nostalgia for hootoo's golden age.

And even nostalgia's not what it used to be.

Me, I'm only here for the badgers.
No, not really. There are people too. But the Guide leaves me cold these days.
Like Pc, I'm glad there's no streaming media and other bloatware on this site. It's much easier to use than so many other places. But then, I'm no artist so the lack of visual material and so forth doesn't bother me too much. Not that any of this matters as I've recently had to cut my hootoo time by half, on account of that tiresome RL stuff.
And yes, the nostalgia I used to have was so much more intense, so much more sparkling and alive, than this dull modern version.
