Psst, Letoffsteam, it's a CONDOLENCE thread. You might want to start a topic on ASK H2G2, or MISC CHAT about misbehaving stars, but it doesn't really belong here in my journal.

Bravo, Jabberwock.
Verlaine is probably an apt comparison to Doherty. I do wish he'd clean up. A genuine talent in danger of dissipation.
But nothing to do with Heath Ledger. Or kangaroos.

Jab and Edward.
Hiya JEllen, hun. I was sorry to hear this news last night. It's always a terrible shame when someone young and full of promise is lost. Especially when they leave behind a small child or children.
I can only think of one movie I'd ever seen him in, and it probably didn't do him a bit of justice. What a shame.
for JEllen
for Mr' Ledger's loved ones

Here's an interesting item from ABC News - the sleeping pills that feature in Heath Ledger's case are under investigation as they seem to make people do bizarre things.

This doesn't prove or disprove anything at all, but it is an indication that there are more possibilities to consider than merely 'Hollywood lifestyle' issues. All the more reason to abstain from making sweeping statements on the subject.

It has to be said that it also has abuse potential - again, proving nothing about this case. And no reason to jump on a tabloid agenda. Yes, some fall into drug habits because of louche living. In other cases, their habit is a reaction to an underlying malaise. I don't subscribe to the 'All Druggies Are Scum' philosophy.

Me either, Ed. Mostly because they're not. So, in a nutshell, I couldn't agree with you more. I spent enough time w*rking in the welfare sector to know that not all druggies are scum, and also to know that the general public doesn't want to accept that drug users are simply people like the rest of us. They need a reason to feel superior, you see. (Cynical, moi?)
But enough of that. In this case the only definite fact is that nobody has all the facts. Unfortunately, that doesn't make for a good article in the tabloids - and they can't bring themselves to focus only on the fact that a nice young man with a significant talent has died well before his time.

We first saw him in 'A Knight's Tale'... which is silly, brilliantly funny and very good!
Then, when I heard the news on the radio at work, I was stunned! I am so disgusted at journalists who have decided to make a meal and a scandal out of it, when they don't have any facts.

28 years old is a heck of a young age to die. I remember Ledger from films like '10 things I hate about you', 'The Patriot', and 'A Knight's Tale'. I liked him and this is really sad.

Yesterday Sky showed: Cassanova, 10 Things I Hate About You and Brokeback Mountain.
I didn't know and only saw the last 2 minutes of Brokeback Mountain.
I'm hoping they show First Knight soon as I think The Gruesomes Twosome would like that.

Lady Pennywhistle - Back with a vengeance! [for a certain, limited value of Vengeance; actual amounts of Vengeance may vary] Posted Jan 27, 2008
My sister and I used to love his character in Sweat (cute little Aussie show about olympic athletes that we got in Israel for some unknown reason, where he played a gay cyclist - long before he was nominated to the Oscar for playing a gay cowboy ). It was kinda nice when he suddenly became a big star, remembering that we liked him even before the hype...
RIP, Snowy.
