Spelugx the Beige, Wizard, Perl, Thaumatologically Challenged

Hi I'm spelugx (just call me 'x' easier to spell (thanks Irving)).
Welcome to H2G2. I'm am Assistant Community Editor (ACE) and I'm a sort of official greeter. I hope you find lots of interesting things around this site. To help you get started go and have a look at our newspaper (http://www.bbc.co.uk/h2g2/guide/thepost), especially the links page where you can find all the groups and meetings places.
Personnally I like to hang out in the Aroma Café where anyone is welcome (http://www.bbc.co.uk/h2g2/guide/A202924).

If you have any questions just reply and I try and sort them out for you smiley - smiley.

x - a *friendly* person smiley - silly

Hi!

It wasn't totally a cut'n'paste message. A lot of work and consultation went into getting the greeting Just Right(tm).

You are one of the few people who actually bother to reply to my posting. Perhaps modifications are in order.

Getting started is the hardest thing about h2g2. Once you're in, you're hooked. Getting in is the hard bit.

Two main activities happen on h2g2: writing for the guide, and socialising (chatting). Getting started on writing is easy. The people in the towers (thats the office that manage h2g2) have provided lots of help there. Just click on the 'contribute' button.

To start socialising, you can either read the official pages by clicking on the 'talk' button, or by starting to look round some of the pages put up by the community. The best places to start are the links and club pages of the post. Unfortunately the last edition has some problem and was never published, but the last edition is still available, so just goto http://www.bbc.co.uk/h2g2/guide/ThePost and click the link to the last edition. There there are two pages of links to clubs and other useful pages.

I hang out in the Aroma Cafe (try the search box), but theres also the pubs (h2g2 something (can remeber what its name is), and the Crosses Purposes), and the Atelier (sometimes handout there).

So, I hope you find this reply useful, and there *is* absolutely no need to grovel I'm not a guru .... or a scout .... yet. Just a 'sickenly friendly ACE'!
