On 22nd November 2007, I went to the Manchester Club Academy, a bar in the basement of the Students' Union, to see a gig by former Housemartins and Beautiful South lead singer Paul Heaton, which was very good. What really caught my attention though was the support act- a Welsh soul singer called Duffy, who sang like Dusty Springfield, Joss Stone and Cerys Matthews rolled into one very attractive blonde package.
I thought to myself "That was very good", looked her up on MySpace and resolved to keep an eye on her career.
A day or two later she was on Later With jools, doing one song, Warwick Avenue. Then she released a single, Rockferry b/w Oh Boy on iTunes, which sold some copies.
On New Year's Eve she starred on Jools Holland's Hootenanny, duetting with Eddie Floyd.
A few weeks ago she turned up on the Radio 2 playlist, and last weekend, her second single, Mercy, hit No.1 on download sales alone.
Just three months after I saw her as support act in a basement. Funy how life works out sometimes.

Do you think she was sat in Jool's green room reminiscing about the time she saw this great specky beanpole dancing like a prat in Manchester?

You're back from honeymoon then? That does sound like a good description of my dancing abilities though.

Proof that your description of my dancing abilities is quite a fair assessment:
